The product arrived in a short amount of time. It arrived in good order, no scratches and the cover was also in very good shape, almost like new. Thank you so much for the well preserved product and the prompt service.

Love the storyline and all the characters. Matthew Broderick and Rutger Hauer are my favorite actors. I wish it would come out in Blu-Ray. It's a must have in any collection.

First off, Ladyhawke is a great movie that stands the test of ages. The movie gets a 5/5 or higher if I could rate it higher. But the DVD is unwatchable. It comes with two sides: one side is for the standard screen, and the other side is reported to be the "widescreen" version. Fair enough. Except that it isn't. The "widescreen" version is standard screen but squished down so that the wide version can fit in the standard screen. So on a flatscreen TV the image occupies at most only half of your screen area. I guess it is fine if you do have a regular TV, but since flat screen is now pretty much the norm, just don't buy this DVD. It is better not to watch Ladyhawke than to watch this. At least it was only $5 I flushed down the toilet but I was looking foward to seeing it again. Hopefully it will come out on Blu-ray.

This is a good movie to watch with your spouse or sweetheart. It's romantic without going too much in that direction while the action scenes are exciting without dripping gore. My teen-aged kids saw it for the first time and they liked it as well. I wouldn't recommend it for really young kids, they probably wouldn't understand it anyway, but it's definitely one I would recommend for a family home movie night

I, personally, love this movie. I've seen this "classic" at least a dozen times and have enjoyed it time and time again. It's a beautiful love story filled with intrigue and suspense. I highly recommend it.

Excalibur Excalibur

Boorman's masterful revamp of the arthurian legend is a lush visual, and audio treat that is every bit as stunning as when I first saw it on the big screen in the early 1980's. The cast is superb, and whether or not you're seduced by the idiosyncratic peculiarities of Nicol Williamson's memorable Merlin, Helen Mirren's calculating Morgana, or Nigel Terry's quietly, forceful Arthur or, indeed, simply want to hear one of the best cinematic meldings of Wagner's incredible music ever, you owe it to yourself to experience this hypnotically, beautiful film.

2 stars. Not for kids either. Quite a few butts bopping around. LOL

I purchased this movie along with the Mists of Avalon. They make a great combination. They tell the whole story well together of King Arthur.

Okay, first and formost - if you are buying this movie, you are buying it because you seen it! If you haven't seen and you are buying it because someone recommended it, then my review is going to tell you to buy! Period! This movie is a classic! Period! I was 6 years old the first time I seen it and I have been trying to find this movie for years, I am 34 years old now and I finally found it and purchased it right here on Amazon! What are you waiting for, put in your order right now!

Excalibur (1981) is an epic fantasy action adventure movie about the legend of King Arthur and the Knights Of The Round Table in Camelot, attempts to recover the Holy Grail, and a magic sword called Excalibur. This movie came out in 1981 but still holds up well today. Directed by John Boorman, this movie makes the most of its limited budget. This movie obviously doesn't have any CGI effects, but the special effects are decent nonetheless. This movie is portrayed in a very "real" way - dirt and grime, blood, gore, etc. Being a sword and sorcery movie, there is a lot of violence and the battle scenes leave nothing in the bag. They are bloody and graphic, just like they should be. There is some nudity and some sex scenes as well. The acting is very good. Nigel Terry plays Arthur. Nicol Williamson plays Merlin. Helen Mirren plays the sorceress Morgana. Liam Neeson makes an appearance as Gawain. Nicholas Clay plays Lancelot. Cherie Lunghi plays Guenevere, and Paul Geoffrey plays Perceval. This movie has a great epic fantasy atmosphere and imagery - magic, warfare, castles, fire, etc. The costumes for the characters are really well done. I especially like the armor the knights wear. Countless horses are used throughout the movie, mostly in battle scenes. Watching this movie again for the first time in many years made me appreciate the huge amount of effort that went into making this classic movie. Everything is REAL with a used look to it and presented in a very real way. The soundtrack is very good as well. If you like epic fantasy adventure movies along the lines of Conan The Barbarian and Lord Of The Rings and are a fan of the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game, then you just might enjoy this movie. Highly recommended.

Darkest Knight 3: The Ultimate Sword Darkest Knight 3: The Ultimate Sword

Reviews

We discovered the Darkest Knight accidentally at a yard sale. I admit- at $1.00 I feel we overpaid, but it has been a true joy to laugh at along with my daughter. The special effects are painful and truly bring a new definition to 'special' effects. I have seen better CGI monsters in free video games. There is far too much to lampoon in a short review. Strike in any direction- you can't help but hit a worthy target. The stories are full of stereotypes, and despite the rich plot potential of medieval England in the time of Richard the Lionhearted and Ivanhoe, the writing seems to have been choreographed to limit the need for anything beyond the three or four reused sets and CGI castles. The best contribution to this series by far is the rich cover art for each of the DVDs that make up the series. Majestic castlescapes with burning orange color and menacing dragons circling the parapets or gnashing teeth in beastial fury- despite the complete lack of a single dragon in any of the first three DVDs (outside of the opening credits, where Ivanhoe inexplicably battles dragons that appear nowhere else). My daughter bought me the second and third as a Fathers Day gift. We had a grand old time playing Mystery Science Theater on the living room couch. Great entertainment, if only by pure accident. My daughter wants me to add that my wife walked into the living room as we were screening the movies to find out what comedy we had in the DVD player that had us laughing so hard. We had a hard time explaining that it wasn't a comedy... intentionally.

This DVD is two episodes of what I hear is a ten episode collection. There is Darkest Knight, Darkest Knight 2, Darkest Knight III, and Fantasy Quest. Each with two episodes each. And I guess from what other reviewers said under the Fantasy Quest review area a fifth disk bring it to ten episodes; I have no idea of what that disk is called or I would own it too. The acting is ok, not great, the sets are poor, the stories are ok, they are all studio B. I watch them now and then. Most Fantasy Questing type movies are low budget; there are a few like The Lord of the Rings that are not, but most are studio B. And if you like these type of movies, as I do, then you watch a lot of low quality movies; and this is two episodes of one such DVD set.

You have to be a fan of British TV to love this. It's in the vein of the old Saturday morning serials. Corny with special effects. The characters are lovable and the acting fits the series. It's true fun to watch and one the kiddies can enjoy.

My son enjoys playing with this product. He has another set of knights and sets up battles with his Knights. This product is good for imaginative play.

This exact same Safari Limited tube of knights was available locally at Michaels Craft Store for only $6.99 and there was no shipping charge. How is it that a "bricks-and-morter" store, with all its expenses and overhead can charge about 30% less than the cheapest vendors on the Internet? I would expect the opposite to be true. These cool little knights should be available for about $4.00 on the Internet & be eligible for super saver shipping. The greed continues. Caveat emptor. As far as the figures go, they are nicely done. Tha painting is reasonably well done for a mass market item. The figures are on the "rubbery" side rather than the brittle side of plastic, which is a good thing. The swords, axes, spears, and banners will bend rather than break. The paint seems to be resiliant and impervious to the bending, but I wouldn't put it to a stress test. There is a nice assortment of figures including two horses/war ponies, a dragon, and a catapult. The set is designed to stir the imagination and I think it succeeds admirably. Safari Lmtd. is a good brand and I hope they continue to put out such excellent toys. If you haven't checked them out, they also offer pirates, James Town settlers, Powatan Indians, more dragons, Egyptian play sets, boats, planes, trains, farms, Wild West, dinosaurs, etc., and all at a similar quality and price. I highly recommend them.

My five-year-old is into knights, big time, and wanted a knight-themed birthday party. Unfortunately, there aren't that many products for knight parties, so we got creative. His aunt made a castle cake using a mold, and we topped it with these cute little knights and dragon. We also bought a bunch of foam swords and played blindfolded sword fighting. Each kid got to take home a cake knight and a foam sword, and it was fantastic! Some of the knights are still being played with five months later, so it was definitely worth the cost. Some have broken, of course.

They were what I expected. Just your simple plastic figures. Some are hard to stand up.

The kids really enjoy these and were excited about the quantity but when they arrived the paint was already chipping off of them. I'd say these would be considered a good dollar store item but I don't think they are worth anymore than $8-$10 so they are a bit over priced.

Nice looking and well made. They will last a long time on a shelf or as fixed pieces on a home made battlefield. Reviews

I was very surprized at the looks and quality, You really get your money's worth.

The sword arrived in excellent condition, the detailing was simply superb. The blade is a nice, balanced weight (Not perfect, but just a few inches above). Its clearly a show piece, as the blade itself features no edge. This doesn't detract from its overall value, considering a combat ready sword useually has a value of over $200. In itself, I recommend this piece to anyone looking for a nice collecters piece to put up on their wall.

Sword of the Rightful King: A Novel of King Arthur Sword of the Rightful King: A Novel of King Arthur

Reviews

I don't really know what I was expecting when I picked up Sword at work one day, but it was actually quite absorbing. Although it read like an episode of Camelot High sometimes, Yolen does know her stuff. I saw the twist at the end coming from about mid-way through the book (there are clues), it was nevertheless a poignant and bittersweet ending, since we know there really is no happily ever after... not in Camelot.

I have read many king arthur books and enjoyed most of them, this is the worst. My complaints are basically the same as the other 1 star review. That Merlin's make is thwarted by using butter to pull the sword from the stone. And that the main character who was supposed to be a 13 year old boy turns out to be a 21 year old beautiful girl. I found that a little confusing. On top of that (minor spoiler ahead, doesnt reveal main plotline) as soon as the king finds out his friend is a girl he proposes to her. This is riciculous. Imagine that your best friend suddenly tell you that they are of the opposite gender, don't you think it would be a little weird if you proposed to them after only knowing them as your gender? Also I was expecting something more exciting and action filled from the back of the cover. It says that somebody pulls out the sword before king arthur does, yes that does happen and is an extremely minor event and really boring. There is little action in this book and isn't really suspenseful at all, you already know that king arthur is going to live because this is supposed to be a twist on the original legend.

I began reading this book because I enjoy reading about King Arthur. I was not real impressed with the story line or the plot. I think Yolen could have been a little more inventive with this book. The end was good but for the most part the book was kind of boring.

Arthur is the high king of all England, but his people are skeptical and his lords trechorous. The chief of those is Morguase, queen of the Orkney islands, the north witch. Four of her children are sent to Cadbury(Yolen's verison of Camelot) and a messenger deems one of them an assasin. All the while, a strange boy comes to Cadbury with a secret and a dangerous ambition. Merlinnus(who we all know as Merlin) plots of gaining the trust of the people of England through a mysterious sword and stone. Full of treachery, death, romance, humor, and the constant battle of good and evil, the Sword of the Rightful King makes a fantastic read for all Arthurian fans. Yolen does an outstanding job pertraying life in the dark ages and the problems a king must face. An advancement in Arthurian stories.

I read this book like a year ago so I'm a little dusty on the finer details but this book was interesting if you wanted a different take on the typical King Arthur story I normally like King Arthur stories but this one I just thought was a little boring maybe it was a little too different for my tastes and I have to say the Gawen and Gawaine kind of confused me at times I tended to mix them up a bit probably my biggest issue with this book is that one of the characters is suppose to be a boy and then you suddenly find out that he is a she and then she gets married and its kind of weird cause through the entire story you're used to thinking of her as a boy so it was really awkward to me when she gets married it wasn't a bad book just not one of my favorites and I'll probably never read it again

Average Rating:

The newly crowned King Arthur has yet to win the support of the people. Merlin must do something before the king is betrayed, or murdered, or--worst of all--gets married. So Merlin creates a trick: a sword magically placed into a slab of rock that only Arthur can withdraw...

Warriors in the Mist: A Medieval Dark Fantasy Warriors in the Mist: A Medieval Dark Fantasy

Reviews

I loved this book! With the gorgeous poetic writing style, it reminded me of an adult fairy tale, chalk full with life lessons, and a destined great romance. It is an old fashioned gem with wisdom for the modern world.

This story really inspired me. It was enjoyable to see a mystery unravel in medieval times. Sophisticated plot and excellent writing made the romance in it all the more epic. And I have to admit it, I am in love with the Kayente!

I very much enjoyed this book. The complex emotional and psychological profiles of the characters enthrall you from the start. The heroine's journey through many trials and tribulations proves that strength can be found in many forms, and not always where expected. The male lead proves that there can be more to a man than what meets the eye. I recommend this book to anyone looking for fantasy, romance, and adventure.

I feel totally duped by all these 5 star reviews, I can't figure them out, did we read the same book? I usually don't write reviews, but I feel so strong about this one I have to. The writing style was horrible, lacking depth, reminding me of my 5th grader just learning to write using too many adverbs and adjectives, just because. I gave this book an honest effort and forced my way through it. But cannot recommend anyone else do the same. I don't think Amazon had the excerpt from the book included in the listing when I made my purchase, I'm sure I wouldn't have ordered it if it was there.

This characters were so well developed I didn't want the story to end. I can only hope one day there will be a sequel. This is a well written medieval mystery romance that is sure to be a classic one day.

Dungeon, Fire and Sword: The Knights Templar in the Crusades Dungeon, Fire and Sword: The Knights Templar in the Crusades

Reviews

First, I must say that this was an entertaining book. And that's really all I can say about it that's endearing. I picked it up at a bookstore assuming it was a history. I should have looked at it with a more critical eye. At least the edition I have, does not have footnotes or end notes. At all. The author gives some interesting anecdotes that I want to believe but I cannot because he does not cite the source they came from. I thought that was curious, but as I had already invested money in the book, I forged onward. Then there's the additional concerning discovery that I made while reading: apparently, the author did not read the actual Rule of the Templars. Or, if he did, he didn't read it enough to feel it merited a mention in the bibliography. My question: How in the world can a person write a history of the Templars without consulting their rule? That would be like writing a history of the United States and not referencing the Constitution. The Rule is the foundation of the order and explains who they were and what they believed and how they were to conduct themselves in all things. That would be the first place I would go to find out about these men. But I didn't see it anywhere in the bibliography. I think that had the author read the Rule for himself, he might have also saved himself some embarrassing mistakes. For instance, at one point he comments on how the Templars were not permitted to change their sheepskin drawers. Now, I've read both the French Rule and the Latin Rule for the order and I have not seen anything in there forbidding the brothers from changing their sheepskin drawers (then again, maybe I just was not paying close enough attention to how often the monks should change their undergarments). I have also not seen this practice mentioned in the works of historians such as Piers Paul Read and Malcom Barber. There were holy people of the time who did wear such clothing and refuse to change them in the name of religious mortification, but nowhere have I found that the Templars practiced this. On the contrary, the brothers were expected to be of a tidy appearance. Again, footnotes or end notes here would have been appreciated. I would be remiss if I did not comment on his general writing style, as well. Many times I forgot that I was reading a history. In this case, that was not a good thing. A good historian strives to be objective and to assess the sources and evidence at hand. Mr. Robinson did not once address the issue of source objectivity. What do I mean? Here's an example: Mr. Robinson concludes that the tenth Grand Master of the Templars, Gerard De Ridefort, is a madman. He mentions this several times in reference to Master de Ridefort. Now, it might well have been that the Grand Master was a lunatic. I don't know for certain because I wasn't there and didn't meet the man. But as I read, I wanted to know on what evidence this supposition rests. There exist only a couple of sources from the period about Master de Ridefort and historians are quick to point out that while the portrayal may be accurate, the writers of those sources were all writing with an agenda and a bias that modern historians would balk at including in their works. Objectivity was not necessarily the point of history in the Middle Ages (or at other times in history, for that matter). But since the modern historian should strive for objectivity, it would stand to reason that he would question the sources. History is about questioning, not just sitting back and enjoying the scenery from the passenger seat. Then again, maybe Mr. Robinson found some medieval sources hitherto unknown that definitively conclude that Master de Ridefort was mad. What I wouldn't give for a footnote. . . . And speaking of bias, as some reviewers have commented, I don't think the author missed a chance to snipe at the Catholic Church. And they were not even well-aimed snipes, I would like to point out, but ignorant pot-shots. I finally finished the book and admit that I did find interesting information. However, since the author didn't see the need to document it, I have to take everything with a grain of salt (or with a whole shaker). I do give him credit, however, for not perpetuating the myth that the Templars are the founders of Freemasonry. He mentioned in the end of the book how the Masons incorporate the Templars into their symbology and society but did point out that the Masons do not descend from the Templars. I am happy to see that he resisted the temptation to delve into outright pseudo-history. In conclusion, it was an entertaining book but I think it earned its entertainment value at the cost of historical accuracy. If I want a purely entertaining book, I will wander on over to the fiction section. Meanwhile, if I'm interested in good, solid, well-researched history on the Templars, I'll be found reading my copy of Malcom Barber.

Thid book points out, not only were the Knights Templars heroes of the Crusades versu8s Mus;ims 500 years ago, but the main largest branch of theChristian religion as we know it today. Aleister Crowley Order of Oriental Templars ie the updated version of the historic Knights Templar. In becoming an O.T.O. brother, I saw the knights templar practicing witchcraft and worshipping the Baphomet. Still a secret order you have to be born into. It's is really boring like any church service until you develop like a passion for living christianity. basically, these Knights Templar WERE Christiany then and now. Amen.

Just buy the book, you won't be disappointed and make sure you pick up his others as well.

I enjoyed every page of this one. Not being an expert in this field, I certainly cannot vouch for each and every fact the author has given us, but the several facts I did take the time to further research proved the athor correct. The book is well written and in fact is quite a page turner. This is one of those I hated to stop reading and was rather sorry when I had finished it. It is important to understand this past era in order to understand where we are today. The consequences of the actions taken at that time are still being felt even to this day. Highly recommend this one.

I am extremely impressed by the way Robinson conveyed the history of those tumultuous times in such a captivating manner. This work is rich in facts: both large and small, and all interesting. Aside from Templar history, I really appreciated Robinson's ability to clearly explain the major and minor players and the political machinery and machinations of all sides involved (Muslim factions, Hospitallers, Vanetians, the Popes, etc etc). Reading this work is a real learning experience, and Robinson's great writing is far from dry. After reading this book I will surely continue to read Robinson's other works.

Average Rating:

This book recounts the stirring saga of the Knights Templar, the Christian warrior-monks who occupied the sacred Temple Mount in the aftermath of the butchery of the First Crusade. In telling this story, the author's clear explanation of the cultural and religious differences among the Templars' enemies and friends in the Middle East gives fresh understanding of the people who populate this restless region: the Sunnites and the Shiites, the Kurds and Armenians, the Arabs and Turks.
