Youngdale 3/8 Youngdale 3/8" Inset Self Closing Knife Hinge For 3/4" Minimum Thickness Door Antique Brass

Reviews

My dad is has been a cabinet maker for over 50 years. When I recently asked him to show me how to make cabinets, he recommended this hinge. He built the cabinets in our kitchen and these are used throughout. It is sturdy and works smoothly. When I ordered a box of these from the manufacturer, they were on my porch (UPS delivered) the very next day.

I have used these before so I knew they worked well.If you want a knife hinge which is also self closing this is a good one.

Youngdale 1/4 Youngdale 1/4" Overlay Self Closing Knife Hinge For 1/2" Minimum Thickness Door Antique Brass

Reviews

I have used these hinges on many doors, both inset and overlay, for cabinets and furniture and had no failures. A slot must be cut in the door that is 25/32" deep and 9/16" long. Therefore if you are using a frame and panel door the stile should be at least 2" wide for strength and to hide the hinge for glass insets. I have used them on 1-1/2" stiles and had no failures but I am uneasy about weakening the stile so much at the slot on a 3/4" door. Thicker doors will provide more strength. I have cut the slots on a table saw (overlay) and hand chopped them for more control on 3/8's inset doors with 1/1/2" stiles. Youngdale has some installation tools on it's website that seem to have been developed by cabinet shops. In spite of my concerns about strength I continue to use them because of relatively low cost and low external profile. However, I suspect I will switch to euro hinges in the future for frame and panel doors if I can find them at the right price.

Step-by-Step Knifemaking: You Can Do It! Step-by-Step Knifemaking: You Can Do It!

Reviews

I bought this book as well as 3 others on knife making and this one was very informative. It has useful techniques and decent illustrations. I do not plan on etching my knives so that section of the book did not interest me. Overall a good purchase for a beginning knife maker.

This is a really good book on the subject. I love the fact that Boye likes to use scrap steel and turn that into knives. He uses the stock removal method instead of forging. This book is just a wealth of information and I recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about knife making. It is true that Boye mainly makes chef knives, but all this information can be used to make any kind of knife that is made by the stock removal method. Enjoy.

This book is a little too good... now I can't get it back from my friend.

a good book for beginers.ther is no attitude about makers mark, and how to prevent rust from the knife blade.

David Boye writes as an old friend might write to you via e-mail, describing his hobby and how he makes knives, soon infecting you with this 'disease'. By the time you've finished your subconscious will be telling you "I've got to become a knifemaker!". The book covers tools, knife types, stock removal, grinding, building the handle, heat treatment, regrinding and polishing, handle materials, buffing, sharpening and maintenance, etching and even how to make the sheath. For a beginner like me who has recently rediscovered the world of knife collecting and knifemaking, this book is simply amazing. I've got no regrets buying this. You should add it to your library.

A knife is the most basic tool, and the average adult uses a knife almost every day. Yet there are very few individually made knives in existence, and few people who know how to make knives. Step by Step Knifemaking, by master knifemaker David Boye, is widely regarded as the classic on the art of handcrafted knives...

You can get by with this book only, if you are just starting your knife collection.

This is THE BOOK for the serious knife collector. I collect Case knives and this reference book has become indispensible to me when I am considering a knife purchase.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in starting to collect knives...It has all the necessary info to get started..Nice gimp chart too!!! To the dude who wants knife VALUES===> Here is a hint===> www.eb@y.com Collectibles Knives, Swords, and Blades The concept of a price "value" guide is humorous in today's internet era.... I wouldn't use this book to get an EXACT value of a knife (that is impossible anyways) But..You can use the figures to roughly estimate which knives are of more collector value and which ones are run of the mill $.89 Imperial Jackmasters

This is a good book as a resource. Many of my knives are listed by company, but not in the price guide. I am after the prices suggested.

Wayne Goddard's $50 Knife Shop, Revised Wayne Goddard's $50 Knife Shop, Revised

Reviews

I just struggled through this book, and it's total lack of organization is maddening. The author jumps off on a thousand tangents, but can never finish a thought. He starts on one idea then moves on to another - he talks about how wheels on sanding machines can be made from scrap wheels, and mentions that he was recently at Pearl Harbor, and they had lots of carts there, so obviously there is a scrap yard somewhere where old wheels can be purchased. WHAT ?!?!? Due to the horrible editting the text often contradicts itself - to reference just the bit about grinders again, he talks about how scrap wheels are good, especially for hollow grinding ... but you need more precision if you're going to do certain things ... like hollow grinding. I wanted to like this book, because the author is so clearly a friendly interesting guy...but the bottom line is this: Pretty much every other book I've read on knifemaking is better than this one.

I bought this book along with 3 other knife making books. Wayne does a good job of describing knife making procedures with a minimum of tools. If you are on a budget I would strongly recommend this book. It has LOTS of pictures and does a good job of explaining them unlike some other books. If you have a little more budget than $50 get David Boye's book Step by Step Knife Making or the Barney/Loveless book How to Make Knives

This book is full of good information for the beginning knifemaker. It is well worth your money. This book will make a great gift for any handyman, especially if they have limited knowledge about knifemaking, as I did. If they are experienced at making knives, they may or may not learn new tricks or styles of knifemaking.

This is by far, the best knife making book I have. If you are like most, broke, you have got to get this book. Well written and put together. This is real world, not a techy manual. If you buy no other book, buy this one. This book is the reason I started making knives. I got this one for under $10, used(I could not tell it was used). What a steal. 5+ stars

This is a really great book. This book is mainly concerned with forging knives from scrap coil and leaf spring from cars. Its one of the best books on making your own tools too. If your new at knife making then this is a must have. It covers most aspects of knife making, even some stock removal. What its best at is to show you that you can make knives from scrap and homemade tools for next to nothing. I highly recommend this book.

4 Pc Japanese Samurai Katana Sword Set Ninja 4 Pc Japanese Samurai Katana Sword Set Ninja

My first order was said to be lost & did not come in. I had to call constantly checking & changing traking numbers. The order came in late & was shipped by ups. they leave packages on the doorstep without giving anyone time to get to the door, that is, even if you are home. In which case anyone can take it. The swords themselves look okay & everything but they are not sharp at all! nowhere on the page does it mention this. i have bought the swords as a present & who really wants to give dull swords to their boyfriend for christmas! if i would have known that i would not have ordered the product to begin with!

The 4pc Japanese Samurai Katana Sword set Ninja. They great more than great, it is a nice, excelent gift. The delivery was excelent too it get by the time the they said...

I bought this set for my wife for Xmas. She is into collecting swords. She loved the set. All arrived fine, box was beat up because of shipping during the holidays and a couple of swords where sticking out of box upon arrival. But no scratches or damage. Swords are beautifully made. Thanks Again for the set!

I would porbably rate this order a five, exce0t that i did not recieve all four swords in this order. The large new sword did not come with the order. When we ordered the set, it was mentioned that the order would probably come in multiple deliverys, and this is what we thought was happening. We recieved three of the four swords, and are wondering when we will recieve the fourth one. Barry Lawrence

The earliest knives were shaped by knapping (percussive flaking) of rock, particularly harder rocks such as obsidian and flint. During the Paleolithic era Homo habilis likely made similar tools out of wood, bone, and similar highly perishable materials that have not survived. As recent as five thousand years ago, as advances in metallurgy progressed, stone, wood, and bone blades were gradually succeeded by copper, bronze, iron, and eventually steel. The first metal (copper) knives were symmetrical double edged daggers, which copied the earlier flint daggers. In Europe the first single edged knives appeared during the middle bronze age. These replaced daggers, which by that time had evolved into swords. Modern knives may be made from many different materials such as alloy tool steels, carbon fiber, ceramics, and titanium. There is a very active community of modern custom knife makers and collectors, who often pioneer the use of new materials in knives. In the United States, The American Bladesmith Society promotes forged blades; the Knifemakers Guild promotes all custom knives.
