Black Knight #1 Claymore Sword - 52 inchReviewsFirst, at this price you know your not getting a metal clanging Scottish battle ready weapon, right? It is however a very nice for the price replica that would look great hanging on the wall and taken down to do a few of Arnold's Conan moves with. Wooden hilt was nice and warm to the hand. The metal shiny without flaws. I gave this one as a gift and they loved it and thought I had spent much more. If you sharpen up the edges when the time comes and you have a good arm and quick hands you might be able to take a few heads in the Zombie Apocalypse. Looks wicked strapped to your back using the enclosed sheath also. This Claymore is indeed a long one scaling at 54 inchs long and weighs around 8 Lbs. I've had some fun cutting things in half, but the sword comes as unsharpened so you may or may not want to sharpen the blade. Other than that the Claymore for the price shown is a perfect bargain I've seen around. Average Rating:![]() |

Lerner & Loewe Songbook for OrchestraReviewsIf you are a listener who enjoys Broadway Musical Overtures, you will certainly treasure the Lerner & Loewe Songbook for Orchestra. Wonderful instrumental melodies from Camelot (13:37); My Fair Lady (18:28); GIGI (9:27); Paint Your Wagon (10:54) and Brigadoon (14:17)that are nothing but toe tapping type arrangements! I would rate this particular music CD in my top 5 purchases of music! Enjoy! Great music from the creators of Brigadoon, Paint Your Wagon, My Fair Lady, Gigi, Camelot, and others. Good CD and I am pleased I bought it, but not as good as I normal expect from Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops If you like Percy Faith's music, you'll like this one. He quit recording and died much too young. But while he lived, he recorded some great music. This CD represents some of the best of Broadway done in a great pops style. There are five orchestral suites, one each for the following: 'Camelot', 'My Fair Lady', 'Gigi', 'Paint Your Wagon', and 'Bridgadoon'. They are all arranged for orchestra by Robert Russell Bennett, save that for 'Paint Your Wagon', which was arranged by Cincinnati Pops Orchestra director Erich Kunzel. The works of Lerner and Loewe were a mainstay of Broadway for decades in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, but it was during the late 50s and early 60s that their true glory days took hold. The presidential term of John F. Kennedy gained the nickname 'Camelot' in part because of the influence of the Lerner and Loewe production going on at the start. The songs contained in these suites are instantly recognisable by many, as the Lerner and Loewe songs have become so well known that many know the songs better than the musicals or the composers from which they come. 'I Could Have Danced All Night' and 'Wouldn't It Be Lovely' come from 'My Fair Lady', 'Thank Heaven for Little Girls' from 'Gigi' - these are but the most of famous of the familiar tunes. There are a lot of pieces here that the listener will appreciate, both in remembering old pieces or in learning new nuances to the tunes. This particular disc by Telarc has a feature called 'Spatializer', which gives a three-dimensional quality to the sterophonic sound, enhancing regular players and working well with surround-sound systems, too. The Cincinnati Pops are expert at this kind of music, having produced dozens of CDs of popular music and modern composers of musicals, film music, and pops-oriented major compositions. This is a fun disc to have. This CD is a follow-up to the Rodgers & Hammerstein Songbook for Orchestra (1991) from the same team. It is a thoroughly successful sequel: I believe anyone who enjoyed the R&H will enjoy this one as well. If I am very slightly less enthusiastic about this one than the R&H, it's not because of any shortcoming of Kunzel, the Cincinnati Pops, or Telarc, all of whom are at the top of their form. Rather it's because Frederick Loewe, for all his undoubted expertise, is not quite in the same class as a composer with Richard Rodgers. But that's asking a lot, since Rodgers was the American musical theater's leading light. Lerner & Loewe's musicals were second only to R&H's during the golden age of the American musical, and their My Fair Lady is by any standard one of the best musicals ever staged. If Loewe did not create as many unforgettable numbers as Rodgers, he nevertheless wrote many delightful songs and much enjoyable music. This CD features five orchestral suites, ranging in length from 9 to 18 minutes (total playing time 68:06), from Brigadoon (1947), Paint Your Wagon (1951), My Fair Lady (1956), Gigi (film 1958; staged 1973), and Camelot (1960). The arrangements (all but one by Robert Russell Bennett) are expert. The performances are masterly (if perhaps lacking in just a tad of the infectious brio that the same team brought to R&H). And Telarc's robust sound (recorded 1993) would be hard to improve on. Warmly recommended. Average Rating:![]() |

Record of Lodoss War - Chronicle of the Heroic Knight: Demon Sword [VHS]ReviewsI would like to warn anyone who reads this, if they buy this or any other DVD through the Marketplace to examine the product they received carefully. Frequently, a Seller may list the sale under a different print/edition than the one they have. Also, on an out-of-print item like this, a Bootleg may be substituted or mistakenly re-sold as the genuine item. The first easy-to-find red flag is the Region marker on the back of the case or on the disc. All-region DVDs are frequently bootlegs and may not run on Region-specific DVD players. The second easy-to-find red flag is the lack of a publisher's logo on the front, back or spine of the DVD case and/or on the disc itself. The third easy-to-find red flag is the lack of copyright marks and license information on the back of the case or on the disc itself. The fourth easy-to-find red flag is the contact information on the back of a case. If there is an email address from a free-email site like Yahoo or their site is hosted by a free-webhost like Geocities. The actual contents of the discs may be trickier. They may be a rip of a licensed VHS (tell-tale graininess or distortion of the image), a fan-sub rip, or the subtitles may read like the script was put through Bablefish and character names are incorrect or translated into phonetic Chinese. If you're into Anime, you'd be cheating yourself by not getting the collectors edition of this Anime classic. This is a groundbreaking Anime, that brings the Role Playing video game to life. The story centers around Parn, a young man in a small village, who wishes to become a great knight like his father. A situation occurs that forces Parn to test rather he is man enough to live the life of a warrior. He meets allies along the way, and before he knows it, he and his companions are caught in the middle of a war between Light and Darkness. The Animation aged well over the years and is still considered one of the best in Fantasy art. The Soundtrack is beautiful and one of the most celebrated parts of this Anime saga. I could go on, but anyone who knows a teaspoon about Anime, knows about Lodoss War. It's a staple in the Art that is Japanimation. Definitely the best Swords and Sorcery animated series/film that I'VE ever seen. Although I do agree with most of the small criticisms others had about the characters being fairly stereotypical, I think that these stereotypical characters were never executed so well (at least in animation). As far as the cut corners in the animation go, they were annoying, but didn't happen too often. Only in maybe episode 12 were they super noticeable and the fact is, is that this is one of, the if not the best, most well animated series in the genre. It's too bad the previews for the sequel to this, "The Chronicles of the Heroic Knight" look so bad. If you like fantasy though, this one is a good buy. I thoroughly enjoyed this series. Its characters had a clear lineage to D&D characters, but where not quite archetypes. It had a good storyline, character interplay, and associable monsters. The younger heroes evolved under the teachings of the older characters, and they were very sympathetic. This collection is perfect for fans of anime, fantasy, and especially D&D fans. IMHO, its better than the D&D cartoon series of my youth. Although some might find the dialogue silly, or the characters standard, however it still has a storyline we all have grown to enjoy regardless of some of the confusion that surrounds it. The animation and attention to detail in the outfits of each character is enjoyable alone. If you haven't seen this series its worth a watch. Average Rating:![]() |

The Sword in the Stone (45th Anniversary Special Edition)ReviewsThis is a wonderful Disney classic, suitable for young boys and girls! Beautiful animation, fun music, and an interesting plot. Highly recommended. as always, amazon has come threw again. Not Only Are Disney Movies Hard To Find but The prices are so unreasonable. With This Produce,I recieved The Best Quality and A Great Low Price. "The Sword in the Stone" is a nice little Disney picture. Animated and only 79 minutes long, it is ... just right ... for those of us whose attention spans are easily challenged. This movie is adapted from a book of the same title (written by T.H. White). Mr. White's book follows the early life of a famous British folklore hero, King Arthur (a legendary monarch of the 6th century). Bill Peet, the Disney story writer who wrote the adaptation, took the book and picked this, chose that, and changed this a little, and, in the end, did an outstanding job of producing a screen play that is funny and enjoyable. According to the story, a sword is magically thrust deep into an anvil that sits on top of a large stone. It is decreed (on the sword itself) that who-so-ever is able to remove the sword from the stone shall be anointed king of England. Many men try ... but they all fail. Then, after a long time has passed, a youth named Arthur appears on the scene and, miraculously, he pulls the sword from the stone ... and then is made ruler over all of England. The story also includes another legendary character ... Merlin the magician. Merlin is wise, powerful ... and dotty. He foresees the arrival of the twelve year old Arthur and he feels that it is fore-ordained for him, Merlin, to be the boy's teacher/mentor/companion to guide the lad toward some mysterious destiny. Merlin, Arthur, and Merlin's pet owl Archimedes (who can talk) then embark on three magical adventures ... afterwhich the movie moves swiftly to the dramatic moment of Arthur and the sword. The writing for "The Sword in the Stone" is good. No trouble is too serious or too scary and the trouble scenes are never drawn out. The bad guys (and bad creatures) are never allowed to win too much and our heroes are never allowed to lose too much. The importance of education is emphasized, but not over-emphasized. The story moves along at a comfortable pace, and all the scenes are believable ... in-as-much-as the behavior and reactions of the characters are plausible and credible. And there is a delicate charm and some depth of goodness in there too. Incidentally, Merlin is given some pretty good lines to speak, and the squirrel scene is delightful. The voice characterizations in "The Sword in the Stone" are very good. Karl Swenson provides the voice of Merlin, and he is wonderful. Junius Matthews does the voice for Archimedes the owl, and he is superb also. But the portrayals of the bad guys (often considered plum roles by actors and actresses; ones that they relish playing) in "The Sword in the Stone" are also done exceptionally well and they add a great deal of strength to the movie. Sebastian Cabot provides the voice for Arthur's boisterous and self-important master Sir Ector ... and this would be the refined, articulate, and dignified Sebastian Cabot ... and he is very convincing as the crass and uncouth Ector. Norman Alden uses his voice talents to portray Sir Ector's son Kay, and he also does an excellent job. Kay is an ill-mannered oaf, but after watching "The Sword in the Stone" a few times you begin to appreciate the good job Alden does ... with a minimum of lines ... in making this crude and rude character come to life. Martha Wentworth does the voice of the evil Madame Mim ... and she is a real treat. Madame Mim absolutely delights in the macabre, and Wentworth seems to have absolutely delighted in playing her. All in all, "The Sword in the Stone" gives us some pretty good entertainment and is deserving of repeated viewings. Great for you kids. My boy loves the movie, and you'll probably get a more positive message from this type of movies, other than modern kids movies I was so glad to see the Sword in the Stone Anniversary edition available, I had missed it when it sold in the stores and my 4 year old grand-daughter fell in love with it...now when she comes to Grandma's house, she picks out that movie to watch, just like her mommy!! LadyhawkeReviewsThe product arrived in a short amount of time. It arrived in good order, no scratches and the cover was also in very good shape, almost like new. Thank you so much for the well preserved product and the prompt service. Love the storyline and all the characters. Matthew Broderick and Rutger Hauer are my favorite actors. I wish it would come out in Blu-Ray. It's a must have in any collection. First off, Ladyhawke is a great movie that stands the test of ages. The movie gets a 5/5 or higher if I could rate it higher. But the DVD is unwatchable. It comes with two sides: one side is for the standard screen, and the other side is reported to be the "widescreen" version. Fair enough. Except that it isn't. The "widescreen" version is standard screen but squished down so that the wide version can fit in the standard screen. So on a flatscreen TV the image occupies at most only half of your screen area. I guess it is fine if you do have a regular TV, but since flat screen is now pretty much the norm, just don't buy this DVD. It is better not to watch Ladyhawke than to watch this. At least it was only $5 I flushed down the toilet but I was looking foward to seeing it again. Hopefully it will come out on Blu-ray. This is a good movie to watch with your spouse or sweetheart. It's romantic without going too much in that direction while the action scenes are exciting without dripping gore. My teen-aged kids saw it for the first time and they liked it as well. I wouldn't recommend it for really young kids, they probably wouldn't understand it anyway, but it's definitely one I would recommend for a family home movie night I, personally, love this movie. I've seen this "classic" at least a dozen times and have enjoyed it time and time again. It's a beautiful love story filled with intrigue and suspense. I highly recommend it. Average Rating:![]() |

This lushly produced fantasy has gained a loyal following since its release in 1985, and it gave a welcomed boost to the careers of Matthew Broderick, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Rutger Hauer. You have to ignore the overly aggressive music score (critic Pauline Kael aptly dubbed it "disco-medieval") and director Richard Donner's reckless allowance of anachronistic dialogue and uninspired storytelling, but there's a certain charm to the movie's combination of romance and heroism... |

ExcaliburReviewsBoorman's masterful revamp of the arthurian legend is a lush visual, and audio treat that is every bit as stunning as when I first saw it on the big screen in the early 1980's. The cast is superb, and whether or not you're seduced by the idiosyncratic peculiarities of Nicol Williamson's memorable Merlin, Helen Mirren's calculating Morgana, or Nigel Terry's quietly, forceful Arthur or, indeed, simply want to hear one of the best cinematic meldings of Wagner's incredible music ever, you owe it to yourself to experience this hypnotically, beautiful film. 2 stars. Not for kids either. Quite a few butts bopping around. LOL I purchased this movie along with the Mists of Avalon. They make a great combination. They tell the whole story well together of King Arthur. Okay, first and formost - if you are buying this movie, you are buying it because you seen it! If you haven't seen and you are buying it because someone recommended it, then my review is going to tell you to buy! Period! This movie is a classic! Period! I was 6 years old the first time I seen it and I have been trying to find this movie for years, I am 34 years old now and I finally found it and purchased it right here on Amazon! What are you waiting for, put in your order right now! Excalibur (1981) is an epic fantasy action adventure movie about the legend of King Arthur and the Knights Of The Round Table in Camelot, attempts to recover the Holy Grail, and a magic sword called Excalibur. This movie came out in 1981 but still holds up well today. Directed by John Boorman, this movie makes the most of its limited budget. This movie obviously doesn't have any CGI effects, but the special effects are decent nonetheless. This movie is portrayed in a very "real" way - dirt and grime, blood, gore, etc. Being a sword and sorcery movie, there is a lot of violence and the battle scenes leave nothing in the bag. They are bloody and graphic, just like they should be. There is some nudity and some sex scenes as well. The acting is very good. Nigel Terry plays Arthur. Nicol Williamson plays Merlin. Helen Mirren plays the sorceress Morgana. Liam Neeson makes an appearance as Gawain. Nicholas Clay plays Lancelot. Cherie Lunghi plays Guenevere, and Paul Geoffrey plays Perceval. This movie has a great epic fantasy atmosphere and imagery - magic, warfare, castles, fire, etc. The costumes for the characters are really well done. I especially like the armor the knights wear. Countless horses are used throughout the movie, mostly in battle scenes. Watching this movie again for the first time in many years made me appreciate the huge amount of effort that went into making this classic movie. Everything is REAL with a used look to it and presented in a very real way. The soundtrack is very good as well. If you like epic fantasy adventure movies along the lines of Conan The Barbarian and Lord Of The Rings and are a fan of the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game, then you just might enjoy this movie. Highly recommended. Average Rating:![]() |

Sir Cumference and the Sword in the Cone: A Math AdventureReviewsThis book (and series of books) will help personify various math concepts. This will aide in the teaching and understanding of the concepts, give a visual association for students, and the books are cute and fun and inexpensive. We are enjoying this fun book as a way to illustrate geometry. Similarly, the other books in the series are just as good. Simple presentation of math concepts in a fairy tale format. This book is well written, easy to follow and really helps students understand math in a fun way. Highly recommended. Some years ago, we stumbled upon these books at the library. They were an instant hit - every single one in the Sir Cumference series! We check out lots of books but this one the children remembered. In fact, we hadn't checked these out for a couple of years when one son started a new geometry section in math and asked me to get these again so he could review! My preschooler thinks of these as fun stories and enjoys the illustrations while the older crew is making the connections to mathematical concepts they are learning. For example, one child always keeps diameter and radius straight because of the book characters (Radius is the little guy!). I highly recommend this series as enjoyable literature that will help your children remember their geometry. The books also have an object or character (jester, seagull, rat, cat, etc.) that appears on most pages which is an extra bit of fun to look for. I love the rich colors and oil painting technique too (I may be wrong about the oil painting but that's the feel of it). I decided these belong in our home library and was especially pleased that Amazon was running its buy 3 get 1 free promotion just then. I love these stories and so did my students. This book came in good condition. Average Rating:![]() |
