Just glancing at the poster at a distance is fine, but when you're up close, you notice there is a lot of noise in the photo, and it doesn't look very sharp. For a poster this size, that noise really detracts from the quality

what should I say -- I also have the Original Motion Pic. Soundtracks as a single CD Version, but this version is phenomenal - esp. the high resolution DD 5.1 DVD!!!!!!!!!

I purchased The Complete Recordings of the Fellowship of the Ring essentially because I wanted to hear the rest of the music that was not included on the single CD version of the soundtrack. Like most of the LOTR products, I find them pricey and with a lot of premium packaging that I find unnecesary. I would have preferred a Super Audio CD (SACD) stand-alone option with better sound quality (88/96khz/24-bit) or better yet, a Dolby True HD or DTS Master Audio option as a stand-alone product (no CDs) with lossless audio than either the CDs or DVD-A (only 48khz/24-bit) recording provided in this product. Could also skip most of the premium packaging to lower the cost. A couple SACDs or one Dolby TrueHD or DTS Master-Audio disc with a basic case and booklet for about half the price would be much better alternatives for audiophiles more interested in high-quality recordings of music they like rather than the premium packaging. I wouldn't be surprised to find another version of these recordings from New Line (such as I suggested above) but for an even higher price. New Line seems especially intent on soaking LOTR fans for every last dollar.

I resisted buying this for the longest time, since I already own the single disc soundtrack that came out with the film's release. I just saw "Fellowship" with a live orchestra last night at Radio City Music Hall in N.Y.C. and this item was available for purchase. I bought it without hesitation and do not regret it! Excellent music start to finish. The only regret I did have was the long line after the show to get Howard Shore's autograph... it was late and I couldn't wait. Oh well, maybe next year at the live orchestral performance of "The Two Towers"!!!

A rare instant where you can hear the soundtrack of a major film as it was originally composed and recorded before it was edited and cut to fit the various scenes of the film . Packaging was slighty damaged and shipping was a tad long but otherwise I am very satisfied .

Fantastic music. Wonderfully presented in decorated boxes and well packaged. Awesome experience to hear the full score! Well worth the money spent!

Slayers Great Slayers Great

Reviews

GREAT continues the run of Slayers movies that trim down the obnoxiously gigantic and mediocre cast of the TV series and combine them into the powerhouse character of Naga, who always steals the scenes with personality and physique. Here, the beauty and cuteness (and evident lack there of) in the duo is used to wedge the two apart as they become models for golems by a father and son who are at odds with each other. The writer expertly turns D&D on its head with a very straight forward, but fun, script. The kind of tricky depth worked out in the original Slayers Motion Picture isn't here, and is sorely missed. None the less, this is a fun movie, but is it worth the price? I enjoy these movies more then the series, which seems to go in circles and drag on for 26 episodes a season. With Lina and Naga, you know you are getting maximum impact without all the padding.

In this movie Lina and Naga fought against each other in two giant golems. As usual the story is weak, but the story is never the reason why people become Slayers fans anyway. Lina and Naga fought throughout this movie to the amusement of their fans. The movie has some very funny moments and wonderful voice actings in both the English and Japanese tracks. The spells effects were spectacular. This movie is a must for Slayers fans. I think even non fans will find this movie amusing.

After such a long drought, ADV has finally given us more Slayers; and when it rains it pours! All of these Slayers OVA/movies are coming out so fast it's hard to keep up with them. No complaints, though. This is the best out of all the ones they've released so far. It has several hilarious and exciting scenes as well as the usual suspects (feuding power-mongers and family feuds that develop into ridiculously over-the-top situations). Plus, we get the first Lina-Naga duel, which ends in a manner so hilarious I don't want to give it away. The dueling golems at the end are a riot, but not nearly as much so as the people's reaction to them. I think that Cynthia Martinez has become more comfortable as Lina's english voice and it shows. She gets to do plenty of ranting and raving in this installment and she does it very well. All of this adds up to one of the few Slayers OVA/movies that I've enjoyed as much as the television series. Recommended to anyone who likes to laugh.

I am rather pleased...no ecstatic...that ADV is finally releasing the rest of the Slayer movies/OVAs. I guess it's due to the new movie, Premium, that was released two years ago...or due to the influx of angry `Slayers' fans demanding more `Slayers.' Either way, we get more `Slayer' goodness! (Just to note: All the Lina/Naga movies/OVAs...except Premium...do not contain the original TV series characters.) As for the movie itself `Slayers Great'...is well...great!!! I really like this movie, even more so, than, Slayers Return because this ~60 minute flick is well balanced between comedy and action, unlike `Return' which I felt was lacking in the comedy department. The story line is light and fun focusing more on the rivalry between our favorite red headed sorceress and her buxom rival. The story starts off with Lina and Naga saving a girl, Laia, from a rampaging golem. Laia rewards them (well more like forcefully coerced) by letting them stay at her house-which is home to a very famous golem maker, Galia. Unfortunately, the famous Galia and her brother, Huey, have a rivalry of their own. Coincidentally, there is another rivalry between two lords, Haizen and Granion, who both desperately want take over the city. Well, their interests intertwine with Galia and Huey's feud causing the Galia to side with Haizen and Huey to side with Granion. Thus, we end up with a contest between father and son to see who can make the best golem, much to the lords' dismay. This rivalry, also pits both Lina and Naga against each other. The dragon spooker ends up siding with the father, Naga favoring the brother, and poor Laia stuck in the middle. (Her life sucks!) This leads to a hilarious battle of gargantuan proportions (LITERALLY)!! I agree the with previous commenter with the term "jiggle vision!" As I said before, the story line is well balanced in both the action and comedy department. I also think that the story line is pretty good and well developed. The same goes for character development. Plus, you get to really see true Lina/Naga rivalry to its fullest and actually get to see them duke it out (a really cool sorceress duel)...well almost...teehee! The only thing that irks me is that ADV tends to change the script by wording the spells differently (in comparison to the manga and original TV series). I don't know if it's a copy write issue, but come on...'Explosion Array!' Couldn't they stick with the original spell (I think dil-brando)...well, that's the end of my nitpicking on that subject. The animation-like all the Slayer movies/OVAs (Excluding 'Premium')-is good for its time so don't expect to see highly digitalized computer effects. (The movie was made during the late nineties so I didn't compare it to more recent anime---that probably use CG...) The English voice actors (V.A.) did a good job, although I'm not particularly fond of this V.A. of Lina. (I prefer Lisa Ortiz's portrayal because it's quite similar to the original Japanese V.A...I do hope they use the original English VAs for Premium, but that would be a slim chance considering the original V.A. s work for a different company. Oh well!) I didn't have any problems with the DVD (although I have yet to listen to the Japanese version) and the menus were easy to use. The movie is played in Dolby Digital. The disc contains both English and Japanese dubs (like always), English subtitles, and Extras (Slayers Great Trailer and ADV Preview...which are very fun to watch!!).To sum it up, Slayer "Great" is full of laughs and fun action. (Although the TV series will always be the best) It's highly entertaining and fun to watch for 'Slayers' fans or general anime fans alike!!

If you like the series, this isn't as good in script or character development, but visually it's infinitely more refined which almost makes up for it. Kudos to the illustrators and imaging director. This 60-minute episode builds on the rivalry concept explored in Slayers: Next (the Guts!/Brass Rackets episode), replacing Martina with Naga (of course) and tennis with a golem fight. (No Xellos though, so sad.) The script, while in many ways familiar and less engaging than the series, is competent enough for the OVAs and does have its great moments. The animation is exceptionally well-detailed (did they go from pure-hand illustrations to digital?) and, quite frankly, Lina's never looked better. If you know the series, you may note that the subtitles are flat-out wrong on half of the spellcasting. Also, the disc I got had minor audio encoding issues and a circular bit of analog distortion -- I'm suspecting that ADV is outsourcing too much of their latest drive of manufacturing to the lowest bidder, as Slayers: Return also had problems with the encoding on the disc. But for all that, Slayers: Great still a worthy part of the Slayers collection.

Oh,give me a break! Can "ill focused voices" sing three complete Wotans without to show any kind of fatigue by chance? On the contrary,I listen this complete, very uneven Ring production and I'm sure Struckmann is a strong reason 'cause this dvd set isn't completely irrelevant one.Interesting Kupfer's ideas here, but some whims like Loge and Alberich resembling Las Vegas' Siegfried&Roy,that Dracula's fiancée Erda(what a poor singing to this character!)and I'm not sure about these Power Rangers Fafner/Fasolt and gods dancing a "minuetto" at the time they should be "over the rainbow".Orchestra has serious problems in its horn/wagner tubas section and de Billy gets well "Siegfried" and "Walküre" (in despite that weak eight Brünhilde's sisters)but shows his lack of affinities with Wagner scores on "Gotterdämmerung",the lowest performance by his crew.Pick one or two parts of this set and keep your money to Bayreuth production reissue.

I was definitely looking forward to this release. But after watching it, I have to put it in the "good but....." category. The good -- I liked the production. It was very high tech and moved fluidly with none of those "this doesn't make any sense" ideas. The Alberich, Loge and Mime with excellent. If you know the Bayreuth Kupfer version, you'll see similarities in the production and direction. And I do agree with another reviewer who thought there was much clarity around the story line. The not so good - the rest of the singers were acceptable but no shining stars and I'm just not sure what to make of Struckmann's Wotan. While I think the notes are there, too often his tone sounded unfocused and forced. But the biggest problem for me was the overall lack of real emotion. Yes, it can be "cold" as another reviewer stated but then there is an emotion that is conveyed even with that -- too often this performance was bland and the characters just not convincing. Given the overwhelming emotion in the Bayreuth Kupfer production I don't know what happened here. Were the singers just poor actors, was it the fault of the director OR was it the orchestra direction? De Billy's conducting was lackluster at best -- it wasn't a Solti supercharge, it wasn't a von Karajan sense of musical line, it wasn't anything distinctive, it was........just there. I certainly hope the orchestra has replaced some of their horn section since this performance. I know it was live but there were more flubs in this one performance than should ever be acceptable. All that being said, would I still buy it, yes. If you love Wagner, you get just about everything you can, the good, the bad, and the somewhere in between. And on a separate note, that's why I'm fascinated by the Stuttgart "Ring" on TDK. I absolutely hate and love some of the concepts in it but they challenge my thinking and many of the singers gave supercharged emotional performances. I would have given the Barcelona performance a 3 1/2 stars but I can't. Okay, now it's onward to Die Walkure and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will get better.

I was very fortunate to have bought the video of Harry Kupfer's memorable 1988 Beyreuth RING. This has been most unfortunately delisted and should be reissued. This production is based on another version Kupfer did for the Deutsch Staatsoper Berlin. Since "Das Rheingold" is the Prologue of THE RING, and since the other three productions are not yet available, it is hard to see how it will develop. It is of necessity a very cold production since Siegmund and Sieglinde have not yet introduced love into the Cycle. All the characters are egocentric and self-serving -- except possibly for the Giants; and this is very clear in this production. I would hope that Falk Struckmann who plays Wotan warms up his voice in the next two productions, but for this one, the cold tones in his voice are most appropriate. His acting matched his voice. Gunter von Kannen as Alberich stole the production for me. His singing and acting are impeccable, and I almost felt sorry for him when he was stripped of his gold and the Ring; his prior swagger, bragging and bullying notwithstanding. He was Alberich in the 1988 Kupfer RING, as was Graham Clarke who turned in a very good performance as Loge. The Rhinemaidens (cockteasers all) were also very good. As with the 1988 production, the scenery is effectively abstract and, because of the extensive stage mechanics, very fluid with no need to pause between scenes. Bertrand de Billy's musical direction is also excellent. And, as usual, Opus Arte has produced a technically superb DVD. Until whoever has the rights to the Kupfer 1988 RING and rereleases it, this is the best production of Das Rheingold currently available. Although "Die Walkure" has been released, Amazon has not seen fit to obtain it as yet (April 20). They should!!

What a fine show this is! Here we have a production that really adds to one's understanding of the ring and is gripping. The singing and conducting are more than adequate but not all have been to every reviewer's liking. Some thought Loge and Albrecht particularly well done and the Wotan somewhat weak. Others completely reversed this judgement. For me all presented refreshingly new ideas about their characters and all were well sung and well acted. Of course there are faults. The opera is spread over two disks and changing disks requires reprograming. But then the sound is excellent.

Average Rating:

The first of the four operas that comprise Wagner's Ring cycle, Das Rheingold has a narrative that serves as the backstory of the ensuing saga of deceit, greed, and betrayal. It opens underwater, with the Rhine maidens tricked of their gold by the Nibelung, Alberich, who forswears love for the power to rule the world...

This is a wonderful Disney classic, suitable for young boys and girls! Beautiful animation, fun music, and an interesting plot. Highly recommended.

as always, amazon has come threw again. Not Only Are Disney Movies Hard To Find but The prices are so unreasonable. With This Produce,I recieved The Best Quality and A Great Low Price.

"The Sword in the Stone" is a nice little Disney picture. Animated and only 79 minutes long, it is ... just right ... for those of us whose attention spans are easily challenged. This movie is adapted from a book of the same title (written by T.H. White). Mr. White's book follows the early life of a famous British folklore hero, King Arthur (a legendary monarch of the 6th century). Bill Peet, the Disney story writer who wrote the adaptation, took the book and picked this, chose that, and changed this a little, and, in the end, did an outstanding job of producing a screen play that is funny and enjoyable. According to the story, a sword is magically thrust deep into an anvil that sits on top of a large stone. It is decreed (on the sword itself) that who-so-ever is able to remove the sword from the stone shall be anointed king of England. Many men try ... but they all fail. Then, after a long time has passed, a youth named Arthur appears on the scene and, miraculously, he pulls the sword from the stone ... and then is made ruler over all of England. The story also includes another legendary character ... Merlin the magician. Merlin is wise, powerful ... and dotty. He foresees the arrival of the twelve year old Arthur and he feels that it is fore-ordained for him, Merlin, to be the boy's teacher/mentor/companion to guide the lad toward some mysterious destiny. Merlin, Arthur, and Merlin's pet owl Archimedes (who can talk) then embark on three magical adventures ... afterwhich the movie moves swiftly to the dramatic moment of Arthur and the sword. The writing for "The Sword in the Stone" is good. No trouble is too serious or too scary and the trouble scenes are never drawn out. The bad guys (and bad creatures) are never allowed to win too much and our heroes are never allowed to lose too much. The importance of education is emphasized, but not over-emphasized. The story moves along at a comfortable pace, and all the scenes are believable ... in-as-much-as the behavior and reactions of the characters are plausible and credible. And there is a delicate charm and some depth of goodness in there too. Incidentally, Merlin is given some pretty good lines to speak, and the squirrel scene is delightful. The voice characterizations in "The Sword in the Stone" are very good. Karl Swenson provides the voice of Merlin, and he is wonderful. Junius Matthews does the voice for Archimedes the owl, and he is superb also. But the portrayals of the bad guys (often considered plum roles by actors and actresses; ones that they relish playing) in "The Sword in the Stone" are also done exceptionally well and they add a great deal of strength to the movie. Sebastian Cabot provides the voice for Arthur's boisterous and self-important master Sir Ector ... and this would be the refined, articulate, and dignified Sebastian Cabot ... and he is very convincing as the crass and uncouth Ector. Norman Alden uses his voice talents to portray Sir Ector's son Kay, and he also does an excellent job. Kay is an ill-mannered oaf, but after watching "The Sword in the Stone" a few times you begin to appreciate the good job Alden does ... with a minimum of lines ... in making this crude and rude character come to life. Martha Wentworth does the voice of the evil Madame Mim ... and she is a real treat. Madame Mim absolutely delights in the macabre, and Wentworth seems to have absolutely delighted in playing her. All in all, "The Sword in the Stone" gives us some pretty good entertainment and is deserving of repeated viewings.

Great for you kids. My boy loves the movie, and you'll probably get a more positive message from this type of movies, other than modern kids movies

I was so glad to see the Sword in the Stone Anniversary edition available, I had missed it when it sold in the stores and my 4 year old grand-daughter fell in love with it...now when she comes to Grandma's house, she picks out that movie to watch, just like her mommy!!

Based upon T.H. White's beloved novel, this Disney-fied version chronicles the tutoring of the Once and Future King, Arthur, as handled by the magician Merlin. Sword was a portent of things to come, with slapstick upbraiding storytelling, and cultural in-jokes substituting for wonder...

As far as being entertaining, I believe if you can look past some of the hoakey special effects, it is. I have seen, many years ago, a much longer and more extensive version of this movie and have not been able to get ahold of a copy anywhere. Anyone know where I might find it? The ones currently available are missing a lot of material that I had in Beta format but haven't seen since. This particular one that is available is missing some very key scenes; ones that might make the movie far more interesting.King Arthur: The Legend and the Land [VHS]

Forewarned is forearmed. I read several reviews of this movie, before I watched it, that cautioned me it would be disapointing. The reviewers, without saying so in as many words, let me know that this movie was low budget when filmed. I must add that many folks at home could reproduce all the action seen in this movie with a couple of video cameras and two VCRs. Now, having understood all that, I watched the flick with a strong intent to laugh at its sad quality. Rather like one would with "The Rocky Horrer Picture Show." It worked. I roared with delight as the undead knight sliced a large chunk from a huge boulder with a swipe of his deadly blade, yet his blows were blocked by six inch diameter saplings. I huffed along with Lancellot as the lanky youth bent iron bars with his feet while hanging upside down. Watch this movie with the purpose of finding fault and your family will have a wonderful evening.

"Merlin And The Sword" has its good points and its bad points. Unfortunately the bad points are soooooooo bad, they make it hard to even notice the good points. Which is a shame, because in its better moments, this made-for-TV movie brings to life some lesser-known characters from the Arthurian legends.BAD POINTS: Dyan Cannon is unbelievably awful as a bimbo American tourist who stumbles upon Merlin's cave, thus setting the plot (or rather, the flashback) into motion. Candice Bergen is not much better in a one-note (rhymes with "witch") performance as Morgan Le Fay, and Joseph Blatchley is too dweeby to take seriously as Mordred. The Arthur-Guinevere-Lancelot triangle is handled very poorly. As King Arthur, Malcolm McDowell seems more like a preoccupied travelling salesman than like a king. Meanwhile Guinevere lounges around the castle all day in her underwear (I'm not making this up) complaining about having nothing to do, except when she's being abducted by grunting barbarians, which happens not once but twice.Rosalyn Landor has a lovely melodious voice and tries her best to bring some dignity to Guinevere, but her efforts backfire: she comes off as so much more mature and worldly-wise than the still-wet-behind-the-ears Lancelot (played by a very young and skinny Rupert Everett) that their scenes together remind you of Mrs. Robinson seducing Benjamin in "The Graduate." Icky.Add some incredibly bad guy-in-a-rubber-suit monsters and I think that about sums up the bad points.GOOD POINTS: Edward Woodward makes a great Merlin, probably my favorite movie Merlin of all time. He conveys an air of power, authority, and playfulness, all at once. Lucy Gutteridge is also memorable as Niniane, young, open-hearted, inexperienced, but also very strong. The scenes from their magical courtship are charming (if only Dyan Cannon wouldn't keep butting in...)Also good are Patrick Ryecart and Ann Thornton in a subplot about the courtship of Sir Gawain and Lady Ragnell. This episode has quite a bit of charm, too bad it goes by so fast. With the exception of some dopey-looking helmets, the costumes are for the most part very handsome. And the locations (the movie was shot at Stonehenge and in Yugoslavia) are truly gorgeous. If you can ignore the prevailing badness, there are moments in this movie that are like a fairytale come to life. Too bad they're only moments.

Malcolm Mcdowell plays the role of King Arthur in is what more a tale of love than any magic or myth. Despite the title, there isn't any emphasis to the famous sword and it certainly doesn't show any powers. However it is a plesant story and despite the tacky special effects I did like the way they cept the meaning of love alive.

If I were to say the name "Albert Pyun", chances are pretty good you'd draw a blank. CYBORG? Uhh, isn't that a Van Damme film or something? Yeah. RADIOACTIVE DREAMS? Cult movie from the 80s maybe? Sci-fi? Yup. Same guy as this Conan ripoff? Yup. And over 40 other films in less than 30 years. The man has certainly been prolific - if not particularly good. Well, he started off on the right foot, even if this low-budget affair is cheesy, goofy, and most definitely made to cash in on the Schwarzenegger film's success; or presumptive success might be a better way to put it, as it was actually released a few weeks before John Milius' bigger-budgeted, better-marketed film. In fact (and this blew my mind) it had almost exactly the same box office gross, at least in the USA, as the film that made Arnie a star - 40 million dollars or so, a substantial amount for a low-budget indie in those days. Why the film hasn't stayed in the public consciousness and why the promised sequel (mentioned in the end credits crawl) had to wait until this year, remains a mystery to me after re-watching the film recently. The plot is pretty basic and really rather inconsequential: evil Cromwell takes over the peaceful kingdom of Ehdan with the help of monstrous undead sorcerer Xusia, killing the king and his family but missing young Talon, he of the three-bladed sword, who will eventually grow into strapping he-man Lee Horsley and come back for revenge, along the way saving gorgeous Princess Alana (Kathleen Beller) and her brother Micah, who believes himself to be the rightful heir in the absence of Talon. There's lots of fairly mediocre and unconvincing swordplay, plenty of shots of the half-naked Horsley for the ladies and the scantily-clad Beller and other nubile vixens for the guys, rather dreamy overlit photography that helps camouflage the overall cheapness of the sets and costumes, and a musical score that's rousing if rather shameless in its ripping off of 40s swashbuckler stuff and even for a moment "Gone With the Wind". But what makes the film work is the sense of humor it has about itself, and Horsley's charisma. How can anybody take the triple-sword (which fires two of its blades like crossbow bolts) seriously, or do anything but laugh when Talon is crucified on a big wooden X at a wedding celebration but pulls the spikes out of his hands (mostly in slow-mo of course) and then goes on to start chopping up the bad guys as if nothing happened? The film has an energy and verve that for me more than makes up for some really ludicrous lapses in plotting near the end, and I for one wish that a sequel starring Horsley had been made. This is Pyun's highest-rated film on the IMDb and judging from what else I've seen and the descriptions and comments on a few others, probably deserves to be. Too bad - it's far from a great film, but it's sad that the director has become such a joke ever since.

Bad boy Cromwell deployed a demon resurrected to reign over something like ancient England, ousting "good right royals" from power. To complete a task, he needed a crown princes got married. Loyal peasants lead by mercenary Talon inspired with virgin princess's promise to be her first, got rid of illegal throne-users. Traditionally-friendly (hah) multinational affairs and multi-race cooperation (hah, hah) are on display in both camps of warriors. If one abstained from fairytale propaganda, beautiful bodies, brilliant performing and clever mix of actions affect significantly a modern, spoiled with sci-fi tricks viewer with a natural strength and near realistic overcoming of mere terrestrial problems. It seems, too many events ispire future films (The Mummy, The Mummy (HD DVD) / The Mummy Returns , Queen of the Damned , for instance) It is a really good work and a price reflects its market value of a rare DVD to date.

The movie was a good one, however even the lowest asking price is too expensive. The movie is almost 30 years old and is not worth more than 10.00 at the most. Would not buy it here.

I bought this movie for two reasons:(1)I like sword & sorcerer movies and(2)to prepare myself for the upcoming movie,"Tales of An Ancient Empire". Granted,it didn't really help much with reason #2,since the only connection between this and Tales is Lee Horsley, whose appearance in the new movie amounts to nothing more than a cameo. However,I did enjoy this movie, despite all the killing that took place. To me,the most interesting thing about this movie was the tri-bladed sword, which I found to be a really cool piece. If you love sorcery-type movies, you might want to check this movie out!

Usually when you see that a film is directed by Albert Pyun, it's best to just run away and not look back. Pyun has directed tons of dreadful films over the years(this is the man responsible for the Steven Seagal film, Ticker as well as the Snoop Dogg/Fat Joe/Ice-T/Big Pun horror themed crapfest, Urban Menace). His home for the last two decades has been the direct to video market, and most likely you have seen one of his films at some time(and probably shut it off after twenty minutes). His biggest deal was Cyborg, which many have seen. Once in awhile the stars seem to be in line coz Pyun will manage to crank out something entertaining. Yes, I liked Mean Guns and the quirky Full Moon pic, Dollman. The Sword and the Sorcerer is without a doubt his finest movie. It was also his first film and is different from anything else he's done. Made during the sword and sorcery resurgence of the early 80s, this film is a nice addition right up there with Conan and the Beastmaster. Though it's budget is considerably lower than those films, it's a step above Deathstalker. Plot wise, it's rather standard for the genre. Lee Horsley is a wandering warrior who comes across a city ruled by evil usurper, Cromwell. He's "hired"(he does it for sex with the leading lady as opposed to money) to rescue the rightful heir from Cromwell's dungeon and restore peace, happiness, ta-la, tra-la. A demon-like sorcerer played by Richard Moll has helped Cromwell in his conquests, but was betrayed and left for dead, and now plotting his own revenge. Horsley uses a three bladed sword that looks terribly awkward as a weapon. It can also shoot it's blades like a harpoon gun(but with a vapor trail and cool sound effect). It's a pulpy and very fun movie. Why it's no longer available for a decent price on DVD is a mystery and a damn shame(I was lucky enough to get it years ago when it was still in print). It's dark, it's gritty, it's also a bit tongue in cheek. Horsley is an adequate hero. He's not the beefcake Arnold or Marc Singer were, but he has charisma. Richard Moll isn't seen much, but he's a cool character. The scene where he's first conjured is kinda creepy(well, it scared me when I was a kid anyway). The evil Cromwell is played by Richard Lynch, who any cult horror/action film buff knows is an iconic bad guy. From Ruggero Deodato's Cut and Run to the Chuck Norris extravaganza, Invasion U.S.A., Lynch is the man to turn to when you want a bad guy that really looks like a bad guy. The man doesn't even have to act, he just has to be in the frame. All in all, a very enjoyable movie if you like this genre. Probably the best you're gonna do once you leave the big budget area. It's one of those films where at the end, before the credits, a message pops up on screen to tell us that "Talon" will soon be returning in another adventure. Unfortunately that didn't happen.

Average Rating:

Lean, lanky Lee Horsley (TV's Matt Houston) is hardly the iconic image of a medieval warrior, but in this cheesy Conan the Barbarian knockoff he makes his swaggering, mercenary Talon a genial smart aleck of a barbarian hero...

Great Movie, But surprised at the quality of the Blu-Ray! One star is even too much. Also where is the sound on the movie itself? The special features and new Clash of the Titans 2010 preview has sound, but not the movie. They need to re-release this and take time doing it so we can really see Hi-Def in all it's glory. This is VHS quality, if that.

This review is for the Blu-ray edition of this movie and should not be mistaken for the movie itself. I rented the Blu-ray to see if the quality improvement was worth the purchase, it was not. The transfer from film seems to be from a worn copy there are obvious scratches and grainy appearance. The DVD version is cheaper and has the same quality. The movies is still a classic and is one of my favorites.

I loved this movie when it came out. Probably saw it 5 times in the theater (I think I was 12). Great fun if you don't try to over analyze it. I won't necessarily talk about the movie here, but my rating reflects my love of the film. Just got the blu-ray yesterday and watched it last night on a 1080p 65" panasonic plasma. Over all, I think the transfer isn't bad. There are some grainy transfers (the opening scene starts this way, and I was thinking---oh this isn't going to be good). But some of the scenes are crystal clear with great definition. Be ready to see all the flaws that you wouldn't see in the DVD, given the mix of stop motion animation, mattes, etc. With the HD transfer, you'll see blue lines around mattes and background film. The most obvious thing to me was the burning "body" in the Joppa square is very clearly made of wood; it's almost painful to see how bad the prop is when shown in high def. You'll also notice how obvious the witches' prosthetic chins and eye covers are; again the price of having a more defined product. I actually enjoyed seeing how all the different techniques blended together to make the film, but it could be distracting to others. I'd say my biggest distraction with it all (and this showed in the theater and DVD) is how many "night" scenes were actually done during the day with a filter. I think it's a bit more obvious with the high def, but if you've seen this movie in any format you've seen it. The sound is decent; I thought it was a bit low on the volume; I had to turn it up a little louder than I normally do for movies. There are just a few extras included on the Blu-Ray: an interview with Harryhausen, and a Myth and Monsters Gallery. Also included is a promo for the 2010 Clash of the Titans. Not a lot of set up functions, but there are the most subtitle options I've ever seen on a movie (about 20). The book has some pictures in it, and a ticket for $7.50 to see the 2010 movie. I had a copy of the DVD at one point, and remember the transfer being terrible. This is much better, so for fans of the movie, I think it's definitely worth the upgrade.

The movie arrived scratched and the case was broken. I attempted to contact the seller several times and they never replied. I will never purchase from Moviemars again.

I first saw "Clash of the Titans" on television years ago when I was a little kid in the 80s. It became one of my favorite movies at that age along with other films such as "Empire Strikes Back", "Sleeping Beauty", "Lady and the Tramp", and "Neverending Story." The movie is about Perseus who is sent on a quest with some other guys for some reason I can't remember. He is in love with the princess Andromeda played by the beautiful Judi Bowker. Andromeda's previous lover is Calibos, who was turned into a beast for hunting Zeus's deer. He lives in the wilderness with a group of thugs. In his quest Perseus encounters giant scorpions, blind witches, and Medusa. He is aided by Athena's mechanical owl Bubo. This movie was a great movie to see when I was a kid. The movie was very suspenseful and had me on the edge of my seat. The scene that was particularly suspenseful was the scene where Perseus and his men encounter Medusa, who can turn people into stone who look at her. The idea of being turned into stone frightened me when I was a kid and I remember being horrified when one of Perseus's men is turned into stone. I highly recommend this film and it was a great movie to see when I was a kid. On top of containing the film, the DVD also contains a short piece where Ray Harryhausen talks about the making of the movie.

The Dark Crystal [Blu-ray] The Dark Crystal [Blu-ray]

Reviews

This movie is such a delight. The puppet world is fleshed out with many interesting creatures. It feels like an epic for children.

The package arrived promptly and in perfect condition. I would have no problem ordering from this vendor again. It's a strange movie, almost too "dark" for little kids but it's still entertaining, even if the technolgy is outdated. Hadn't seen it since the theatrical release. I wasn't even sure it was availiable. I'd still reccomend it to anyone who loves fantasy films. Just remember, it's NOT the "Muppet Show".

A great movie. I love the Muppets. Jim Henson and Frank Oz know how to weave in many lessons about Love and Light. I loved the behind the scenes feature showing how the characters were created.

It's kind of scary. Don't get this film for your little ones. I definitely would not recommend it for children below 10.

Wow! Cannot say enough good things about this BD transfer. Great movie, outstanding voicing and the PQ and AQ are as good as it's going to get. Movie appears to start out a bit soft and subdued, but after the first 15-20 minutes or so, the picture seems to get sharper and brighter. A pleasure to watch for adults and children alike.

It is stainless steel, expensive and non practical pocket knife, not for shaving; it is made in China, get a REAL German blade. I got a Dovo and I am super happy!

Once you learn how to use it it is not nearly as dangerous as you might think. I wouldn't buy it on a whim but it is definitely a more interesting way to shave. Also a good conversation starter.

Everywhere on the internet I have found that the Kriegar brand sucks. If you have no idea how to make knives razor sharp then don't buy this razor. It is a good starter, but eventually you will buy a better one. Out of the box this razor will not cut much. Like I said, if you don't know how to sharpen, stay away. I was able to make mine razor sharp. Good luck.

yes this does look balla hah but if your looking for something to shave with dont buy this its good to look at but not good to shave with bad steel doesnt sharpen well just all around not good except for looks.

Safari LTD Knights and Dragon Toob Safari LTD Knights and Dragon Toob

Reviews

My son enjoys playing with this product. He has another set of knights and sets up battles with his Knights. This product is good for imaginative play.

This exact same Safari Limited tube of knights was available locally at Michaels Craft Store for only $6.99 and there was no shipping charge. How is it that a "bricks-and-morter" store, with all its expenses and overhead can charge about 30% less than the cheapest vendors on the Internet? I would expect the opposite to be true. These cool little knights should be available for about $4.00 on the Internet & be eligible for super saver shipping. The greed continues. Caveat emptor. As far as the figures go, they are nicely done. Tha painting is reasonably well done for a mass market item. The figures are on the "rubbery" side rather than the brittle side of plastic, which is a good thing. The swords, axes, spears, and banners will bend rather than break. The paint seems to be resiliant and impervious to the bending, but I wouldn't put it to a stress test. There is a nice assortment of figures including two horses/war ponies, a dragon, and a catapult. The set is designed to stir the imagination and I think it succeeds admirably. Safari Lmtd. is a good brand and I hope they continue to put out such excellent toys. If you haven't checked them out, they also offer pirates, James Town settlers, Powatan Indians, more dragons, Egyptian play sets, boats, planes, trains, farms, Wild West, dinosaurs, etc., and all at a similar quality and price. I highly recommend them.

My five-year-old is into knights, big time, and wanted a knight-themed birthday party. Unfortunately, there aren't that many products for knight parties, so we got creative. His aunt made a castle cake using a mold, and we topped it with these cute little knights and dragon. We also bought a bunch of foam swords and played blindfolded sword fighting. Each kid got to take home a cake knight and a foam sword, and it was fantastic! Some of the knights are still being played with five months later, so it was definitely worth the cost. Some have broken, of course.

They were what I expected. Just your simple plastic figures. Some are hard to stand up.

The kids really enjoy these and were excited about the quantity but when they arrived the paint was already chipping off of them. I'd say these would be considered a good dollar store item but I don't think they are worth anymore than $8-$10 so they are a bit over priced.

GI Joe Movie Snake Eyes Sword and Mask GI Joe Movie Snake Eyes Sword and Mask

Reviews

This was a gift for my great nephew, who is 8 years old, for Christmas. He immediately put the mask on and started playing with the sword! Flashing lights, great sound effects, he was having the time of his life! I'm glad I got this for him. Thanks!

I bought this for my 4 year old son for Christmas - Not only is it cheaper on here than stores, the delivery was standard and was EXTREMELY FAST, MY SON LOVES IT!!! All my kids and their friends play w/ it and they LOVE IT!!!!

Looks can be deceiving. This looks like a cheap sword and mask halloween set. However, it is actually pretty good. The mask looks realistic and fits fairly well. I really enjoyed the sword though. There have been similar sword toys that do similar things, but this one executes well. When the sword is swung from side to side, it makes cool "sword-like" sounds. The sounds are of a sword fight, and they are activated with each swing. The sounds vary, so it does sound realistic. My son is having a BLAST with this toy, and enjoys showing us his swordsman "prowess". There is a special button that sounds like the user is being "charged up". Then when released, along with alot of fast swinging, it sounds like you are executing some sort of Killer Sword combo that often leaves the user in a ninja like pose when it ends. It was a little pricey, but for the fun it brings my son, it was well worth it.

This is a Christmas present, so my 4 year old son has not opened yet. But everytime we go into the store, he looks for it and makes me promise that if Santa doesn't get it for him, that I must. This is one item in his list that has not changed. I am looking forward to Chritmas morning to see him happy. It look durable, it has light and sound. Small accesories are not sutible for small children (as mine). But I will let him play with the sword and mask and hide the rest until he is older or for when he is playing under supervision.

I gave this toy to my five year old grandson and he played with it for hours. The sounds the sword makes are realistic and fun. His one year old sister was also attracted to it and loved to put on the accompanying hood. Seems to be well made.

Reviews

I purchased these to use for decoration on a birthday cake. They were great and now my 5 year old likes to play with them.

The kids (2) were very intrigued by the pirates, canons, etc. Had a great time with pretending.

This Pirate "Toob" by Safari has all the characters and extras for a kid to create his or her own pirate stories. There's a cannon along with a pile of cannon balls. There's an interesting variety of pirates, including a lady one. The ship included is about the same size as the figures. So it's really a background piece. But it's nice that Safari included it just to complete the set. Perfect for school dioramas.

The pirate figurines are durable, well made and are depicted well. I used these on a pirate ship cake and they are exactly what I needed to show action. I would purchase this product again should the need arise.

We purchased this becuase my son needed some extra pirates and all the other bundles of pirates I seen were way to expensive for what we need or just really not what he wanted. So this came and was perfect. Just what we needed, and enough pieces, to keep him happy, O and a great price

Chrono Trigger Chrono Trigger

Reviews

Ok I received this game over a year ago on Christmas, deal is I knew this game was a classic so I was excited to play it. I really like old school RPG's, but this game is kind of tedious. At first I was engaged when the I started playing the game, but now that I'm all of maybe 5 to 10 hours into the game (over a year later due to boredom) I wonder why am I even playing it. Chrono has to time travel constantly and do things that have little mention as to where I am going and why. Although the game hints at some things other's it's like why and where am I going. Truthfully I spend more time reading what I should be doing than it takes to do it. Even aside from that the story line is mediocre at best. I'm sorry I wanted to like this game, but I'm starting to find it a waste of time. I recommend instead Earthbound, Secret of Mana and/or Illusion of Gaia (be warned this game is very hard!). (I only give this game two stars because I can tell the company tried to make it fun).

Chrono Trigger was a fancy of my youth. A game that I played again and again, fascinated by the depth, variety, and unceasing quality. Everytime I played the game I would get drawn in to the Chrono trigger world, loathing to the complete the game and end the journey. It really was one of those games that makes you feel like you really are a knight or sorceror battling your way through hordes of evil monsters. It came to the DS?! SOLD. Chrono Trigger really does have a bit going for it, even in terms of modern games. The plot is engaging, fast paced, and fun. The characters are loveable, if childish. The gameplay is simple, but engaging enough that you won't loathe fighting, and the tech/combo system is fun, if only for the variety of attacks you can create. Graphically the game does smell of 1995, but the cartoony nature of the animation is stylized enough to keep most people from focusing on technical shortcomings. So, the game holds up fine in a modern context (though the battle system is a bit dated/simple as compared to modern JRPGs). The real problem with this version is it doesn't really add anything. This is basically a port of the old game 100%. There are a few new dungeons, but they are piss poor. I mean, they are really bad. Think grinding through monsters for no reason bad. Also expect endless and meaningless quests to collect items, and other trivial things. No plot, no reason, just random and useless. The only consolation is that they did add one final boss battle you can unlock that attempts to tie Chrono Trigger more tightly with its successor Chrono Chross. For an afficiando this might be worth the purchase of the game all unto itself. I can't give this game a bad rating, since the quality is excellent. But even for a hardcore Chrono Trigger fan this version of the game is not seminal (assuming you have played it before). I suggest you read the plot synoposis of the last boss battle on gamefaqs and leave it at that. Buy if you haven't played it before, otherwise don't bother.

This game is a remake of an older game. I never played the original, but it apparently has a legendary reputation, and having played this version, I can agree. Though it's an old game, the art style and the soundtrack have held up quite well, in my opinion. I must praise the music in particular: some of it is just delightful and oh-so-very hummable (I'm thinking Frog's Theme and Battle with Magus, for example). This is an RPG; you spend the game running around exploring, talking to people, and fighting enemies. Time travel is a key plot feature; your characters inadvertently travel to the future and find out a monster destroyed the world. The rest of the plot involves your efforts to prevent that disaster, via time travel. Despite witnessing the end of the world, practically, I felt the overall tone of the game had a rather upbeat quality, which I appreciated. One great feature of this game, in my view, is that features a number of optional actions one may undertake, which have visible in game consequences, in terms of how people treat your character. There aren't a huge number of these choices, but they are intriguing for the way give you, the player, a sense of control and of your choices having meaningful consequences. The game is relatively easy; I don't consider myself a particularly skilled gamer, and I only rarely struggled (no offense meant to anyone who considers this game hard :-) ). Regarding morally objectionable content, this game has a little: there was one statement in dialogue that I think might have been some form of double entendre and didn't care for (I don't recall exactly what it was at this point...), and there are a couple of female characters who dress immodestly. The cartoony art style partially mitigates this, but it is still an issue to acknowledge. Though with that objection, I would still recommend this game: it succeeds on so many levels and this issue is relatively limited.

First off, I'm completely biased. I loved this game when it first came out on the Snes, and I was thrilled to finally have it in a portable manor. Like everyone else said- It has a fun and mostly light story line. Vibrant colors and good gameplay mechanics. Also, a fantastic soundtrack. I don't mind the new translation, I actually prefer it. And the extras are mostly throw away to me. The raising monsters mini game thing (I don't know, I wasn't interested.) A great classic.

This game brings back lots of memories from playing the original on the SNES. The added movies can be turned off for a classic feel but I think they add more enjoyment to the whole experience.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Includes Four Swords) The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Includes Four Swords)

I first began playing the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past years and years ago when my family still had a working NES. And it's safe to say that it's set my standard for all Zelda games I've played since then. I had to buy this game when I discovered that my DS was also compatible with GBA games. (I have a busy life, I never stopped to consider.) Anyways, with this game, I can regress to my childhood any time I want. This game also comes with Zelda Four Swords Adventures. The description in the manual seems interesting, but it requires that you have an actual GBA and that all your friends you want to play with have one too along with the connectors and another copy of the game. So, unless you have all that, you can't play it. But I honestly bought this game for the Link to the Past portion of it and I am thoroughly satisfied with that. Happy Winter-een-mas. :)

When I started This game on my (DS)(I love AC and how peacful it is but I desided to give Zelda a go) I thought it was a great game! It was fun. Though it had poor graphics. But alas when i got to the East palace I realized that every time you died you had to go back to the beginning of the palace!!! Even right before the boss. NO check point!!! *faints* This meant that I spent 3 hours doing the same thing over and over and over aaaaannnnddd ooovveerr.... I tried and failed again and again Yes it did get boring. Boring boring. I had never bin so pleased to get of a game before when I finally beat the boss. I dread What i will have to do i n the upper levels. If you do not find joy in repeating things over and over. Do not get this game. All I can hope it that Nintendo does not make the same mistake with Pantom Hourglass. But I am rethinking of getting that game anyway.

This is probbobly the only Zelda game I really like, and I can remember playing it on SNES. Now, for the GBA, I can relieve all those memories. It is a really fun game to play, you can waste hours on it, and I highly recommend it. it is a must for any zelda fan!

That's right 'A Link To The Past', I bought you when you first came out on Super Nintendo. You were one of my first games and I loved you dearly. I must have invested hundreds of hours playing you, searching for all the fractions of hearts, digging with the shovel in places I shouldn't have been digging. I would hop between worlds like it was a revolving door and try to murder the invincible chickens. I'd play your mini-games until I was a grand master at shooting those squids in the shop 5 out of 5 times! But you know what I never did? I never kicked the crap out of Ganon and beat the game!!! It was either because it was too hard, I was too distracted, or I was too confused as to where that last key was in the Ice Palace (YouTube'd that nonsense) but I never conquered you. Fast forward to November 2008: I'm in Iraq with a pink Nintendo DS my wife gave me and a lot of free time on my hands. So I order you, and oh the nostalgia! I still remembered nearly every little trick 17 years later, and this time Ganon, instead of meeting an idle 8-year old with a low attention span you find yourself squaring up with a battle-hardened 24-year old weapon of the U.S. Army...with a slightly higher attention span. But you find yourself suddenly lacking, and you stink of fear. My silver arrows cut your fleshy pig skin to shreds, and for the first time ever Zelda is overwhelmed by my machismo. The TriForce is in the hands of a benevolent ruler once more and we celebrate until dawn; I make bacon for breakfast with the flesh of my enemy. This game is the pinnacle of video game greatness. I didn't play `Four Swords' so I have nothing to say about that portion, but it doesn't get better than `A Link To The Past'. This game gets 1000 Stars and 3 Conjoined Triangles!

Zelda: A Link To The Past was the first game that I remember loving from beginning to end. It is amazingly fun. It isn't too difficult to play (I'm basing this on the fact that I orginally played it and beat it when I was in elementary school), it has interesting stories for the individual characters you meet in the game, and the gameplay is nearly perfect. Someone might argue that the graphics aren't spectacular, but that is besides the point. Honestly, graphics are the last thing you should consider when purchasing a game if it has a decent story and near perfect controls like A Link To The Past does. You start off as an average young lad who wakes up after hearing the voice of a girl. It is the middle of the night when you see your Uncle/Dad prepare to leave with his shield and sword. Of course, you go after him in the middle of the night during a rainstorm. How about that for some visual presence? Anyway, you make your way to the castle and begin your adventure to rescue Zelda across several castle/dungeons, bosses, and two worlds. I still own and play the SNES version. I recently purchased a Nintendo DS Lite and purchased the Game Boy Advance version of this game since the NDS Lite can play GBA games. It's still great on the small screen. The game has been updated with some images and sounds from the Windwaker game --which is also a great Zelda game, so I can't complain for those changes to be honest. My only complaint is probably not worth mentioning unless you are soley purchasing a GBA or NDS handheld system to play this game: The buttons are backwards on the game pad (A, B, X, Y). It'll take some getting used to the difference, which is kind of annoying that that was even done. But, the game is so great that I got over it. Happy Gaming!
