Victorinox 125th Anniversary Limited Edition 8-Inch Chef's Knife Victorinox 125th Anniversary Limited Edition 8-Inch Chef's Knife

Reviews

I already own the victorinox chefs set which came with the 10 in version of this knife. The 10 inch is a great knife, but a bit unwieldy for most of my home purposes. So back on amazon to buy the 8 in version. I bought this anniversary edition solely because the price was $5 less than their regular version. I am so glad I bought it! It works much better for me, is very sharp right out of the box and I like the anniversary logo laser printed on the blade. If you are on the fence about trying the victorinox line of knives, dont hesitate! I also own the Victorinix Santoku knife and it is my favorite. The blade is thinner than the chefs knife, which gives me more control with thin slices, weighs less and the handle is smaller. But every kitchen needs a chefs knife for the bigger jobs. My kitchen knives recommendations for the home cook Victorinox 3-Piece Fibrox Chef's Knife Set Victorinox 7-Inch Granton Edge Santoku Knife, Black Fibrox Handle Victorinox 8-Inch Chef's Knife, Black Fibrox Handle

I bought three Victorinox knives based on a recommendation from "Cooks Illustrated" magazine. I am so pleased! I got the 3" and 4" utility knives plus the chefs knife. All three are the best of their kind I have ever used, and I have always considered myself a bit of a knife snob. The polypropylene handles are very comfortable and non-slip, and the blades are just right. They are really sharp and they stay sharp. The chefs knife is perfectly balanced and such a pleasure to use. And the best part of all, they are so affordable. You deserve these knives!

Good chef knife for the money. Nice feel and very comfortable on the hand.

I bought this knife instead of the other Victorinox 8" chef's knife (Victorinox 8-Inch Chef's Knife, Black Fibrox Handle) because this one is advertised in the Amazon product description as being a forged knife, and it's not (Same with the 7" granton-edge santoku advertised as 125th anniversary- buy the regular one!). The linked knife is the exact same (except for the special-edition "jubilee etching" on this one) knife, but cheaper right now. Go by the description of the other knife and buy whichever one is cheaper. It is an awesome knife though! The weight is great and it feels very balanced, the blade is very straight and high-quality. Super sharp right out of the packaging. Some people complain about that the fibrox handles look or feel cheap, of course they're not the most expensive looking but they don't look cheap to me. I have seen and felt much lower quality handles as well as more expensive, high quality handles and I have no problem with fibrox, I like it a lot actually. This knife is 2" wide at the base so make sure you have a long slot for it in your knife block. So the only reason I gave this knife 4 instead of 5 stars is for the misleading product description, which thinking back is probably my fault for not realizing right away that Victorinox wouldn't put the fibrox handle on a forged knife, but oh well, I guess I'm out 5 bucks but this knife is worth it.

As with all Victorinox knives, the blade is perfection.... However, I did not expect to get a knife (for which I spent $9.00) to have packaging that said "Not For Resale" and engraving on the blade that makes it clear that the knife was designed to be a free promotional item. SHAME ON YOU, Amazon!

As a professional chef and Amazon.com regular, I was disappointed to see Amazon.com turn a handy well made utility knife made by Victorinox to be given away to satisfied customers to celebrate their 125th Anniversary. While this knife is well worth the asking price, it comes with a declaration that it is a gift from Victorinox! Of the dozen or so Victorinox Forschner knives in our kitchen, this is my Swiss wife's favorite blade for tomato slicing and sandwich making. If the knife were not intended to be a free gift from the manufacture I would give it 5 stars... it's Amazon.com that rates 1 star for cheating!

Terrific knife that is great for all applications. Cuts veggies, hard rolls etc. I love it!

Really like this knife. Very sharp. Cuts everything from bread to tomatoes to cornbread. Universal. It peeled the skin off tomatoes very easily. Wish I had another but they are out of them. I have a whole block of knives but grab this one over and over more than the others.

Knife looks cheap and feels cheap, but works well. This is a great knife as long as you don't want to impress anyone.

I am an admitted gore hound but I need a plot to go with it! The movie directors failed attempt to make a documentary-like movie falls exceeedingly short of the mark! The special effects are horrible, oddly reminicent of the cheesiest of 1980's "weakest" horror movies! Too much rubber and corn syrup!!!!! This is a sloppy, badly made, pathetically inane movie! The movie has its merrits....It put some actors to work! That's all I can say about this piece of "chewy phlem" disguised as a movie! I feel real horrible for the nameless people that these events occured to....and even worst about the mockumenaty that depicts their exit from this world! They deserved better!

This movie is an hour of documentary, an hour of bad horror, and 2 hours of pointless cut scenes of snow and none of it particularly good. The monotone delivery punctuated by dubbed screams, fake blood, and bad acting, is only surpassed by the amateur camera angles and ridiculous sound track. I bought this movie on the suggestion of a friend and regret doing so. It takes itself to seriously to even be watched as a good bad movie. Save your self the 4 hours and 20$, read the Wikipedia page on Unit 731 while watching meatball machine with the volume off.

Woodrow Wilson once said of D.W Griffith's "Birth of a Nation" as "History written with lightning." If that film is written with lightning then this film is history written with a buzz saw. Andrey Iskanov has been known for surreal shocking visions in films like Nails and Visions of Suffering both of which I want to see after seeing this film and hope to receive for Christmas and in his latest Philosophy Of a Knife he pushes the viewer to extremes that will leave the viewer disturbed, shaken and most of all wondering how a thing like Unit 731 could have happened. The Film is a pseudo documentary, footage of historical events and an interview with a military translator are interspersed with the reenactments of the experiments of Unit 731, a Japanese Military unit that specialized in medical experiments. These experiments range from biological warfare to frostbite and decompression experiments and all are shown in full detail. There are scenes in this film that will make you squirm, cover your eyes or maybe throw up. I watched this film in two installments over the course of a week due to this film's over four hour length(It is separated on the DVD so there is no thumbing through chapters to find where you left off) and found myself so shocked that I couldn't do anything for the rest of the nights I watched it. This film will test your limits of how much shock you can stand. If you are a fan of Hostel or the Saw series then do not watch this, their gore is tame compared to this film. The fact that this unit actually existed is what surprised me and that Douglas MacArthur let them go after getting their secrets. This film shows primarily Soviet victims but there were plenty of Chinese victims that were a part of these experiments. The blood and disgusting imagery flows like a river. From a woman getting a disease covered cockroach placed inside her vagina to several scenes of abortions and organs being removed. If you are daring then try this movie and try to sit through it in one siting if you have the time. I also suggest buying the limited edition for the DVD ROM Extra of having the entire film score on your MP3 Player or computer. The music just adds to the creepy atmosphere and sounds like nothing you ever heard in a film. Watch this film and just see what I mean

A friend suggested this one to me and after viewing around the first 15 minutes I found my finger on fast forward many times. The film is shot sort of documentary like and if you deleted the wasted footage of falling snow and trees which has really nothing to do with anything in the film.... it will end up being maybe 40 minutes of what this director considers shock horror?? It has the worst effects I have ever seen .. extremely fake. Also the worst acting ever. I hope the team of people who made this piece of junk still have day jobs. Don't waste your time or money.

If this depiction of the horrors placed upon civilians by the infamous unit 731 does not shock you, then nothing will. The filmakers provide one of the most bizarre and brutal films showing the true horrors of a very upsetting event in history. There were times in this film where I had a hard time watching the action(particularly the cockaroaches in the crotch scene)but I just could not turn off the film which is over 4 hours in legnth. The non-stop torture and brutality shown seems to be what was not shown in the film ---men behind the sun. This is very extreme and not for the squemish but should be watched by those who want to see something different, gory and based on fact.

This rare out of print DVD of the classic film 'Halloween' contains footage shot by original director John Carpenter and added to the film when it made it's network TV debut. After all the gore was edited out, Carpenter and co. had to fill up the time needed to air a film during prime time hours. And so missing chapters, like glimpses of Michael Myers in the asylum as a boy, were finally revealed to fans. As a 'purist', i do own a copy of the film in it's original theatric cut, but the 'fan' in me considers this a must have companion to the original cut. You won't be dissapointed!

This is the best horror movie ever made and it looks great on blu ray.

Great item! I'm sorry that it took so long to leave you positive feedback. You are a great seller! Thank you so much!!

On Halloween 1963, Haddenfield, 10-year-old Michael Myers, estranged and mentally unstable, is imprisoned in Smith's Grove Sanitarium under the care of Dr. Sam Loomis for the murders of his mother's boyfriend, his older sister, and her boyfriend. Now, 16 years later, he escapes and now in search of his baby sister Laurie and Dr. Loomis must warn the residents of Haddenfield and get to Laurie before Michael does. This movie does make for a very admirable companion piece to a horror classic, blending the old and the new into an entertaining and thought-provoking fright movie.

Horror films tend to succeed on one of two levels: by appealing to the imagination, or by assaulting the emotions(or in some cases the senses). I don't know that any movie has ever managed to achieve as much, on both levels simultaneously, as Halloween. The movie is beautiful and stylistic,on the one hand, yet primal and suspenseful on the other. There are just so many things in this film that work. So many things that are just 'right', for lack of a better word. Take Michael Myers himself, for example. He is the ultimate slasher villain. You can conceive him as an insane freak of nature, or the very embodiment of Death itself. He can be this macabre phantom one minute.............and a brutish animal the next. Despite his size, he can appear out of nowhere, get from place to place without being seen, be right in the room with you but go unnoticed. Yet alongside of this ethereal quality there exists a savagery, vividly demonstrated when he impaled that strapping young man to the wall, or when he sated his hunger by devouring a local dog. I have heard people refer to Michael Myers as an 'efficient' killer. Usually producers and other business oriented people who are utterly clueless about such matters. Of course, Myers CAN be efficient when he so chooses. But it is hardly his typical mode of operation. Myers is a gamesman, a prankster........the ultimate sportsman. Again and again, he offers opportunities to his prospective victims to salvage their lives. The most glaring example is when Annie gets trapped in the laundry room. At one point, she even gets stuck halfway in and out of the window. There could be no more convenient juncture for an 'efficient killer' to do his thing. But what does Myers do? He eschews this golden opportunity. Far, far too easy. Even when he's lurking in the back seat of the car, he goes so far as to give her one, final chance. One last, brazen hint, which she DOES eventually get..........but she gets it about 3 seconds too late. Linda and her boyfriend get similar clues. Laurie not only gets hints as to what is happening, but once the attack is under way, he even gives her what amounts to a couple of TIME-OUTS!! An efficient killer does not operate this way. But a hunter, if he is a true sportsman, does. And this is what makes Myers the ideal slasher killer. He may offer you several chances to save your life.......but you cannot count on this. He is the ghoulish personification of Death, and the unrivalled alpha male among slasher villains. Myers is the most obvious factor. But Dr.Loomis is essential, as well. Strong, determined, and obsessive, he is the virtuous flipside to the hunter he is, himself, hunting. You get the feeling that Loomis feels just about as at home in those shadows as Myers himself. Laurie Strode is a terrific 'final girl.' Awkward, shy, and good-natured, but resilient and courageous, as well. There are so many 'little' factors that serve to enhance the atmosphere of this film. The sound of children's voices chanting that creepy nursery rhyme. The muffled sound of Myer's animalistic breathing through his cadaverous mask. The mystique of Dr. Loomis......what exactly did he see during those 15 years in the sanitarium that aroused THIS level of obsession? The occasional glimpse of cascading leaves, or a solitary jack o'lantern, to offer us subtle reminders of the season. The ghastly shadows on the front of the Myers' house. The sight of the escaped lunatics, in their white hospital gowns, roaming aimlessly on the horizon. The way Myers tilts his head, like a curious animal, when he is gazing at the victim he had impaled to the wall with that huge butcher knife....... Yet, for all that, it would not be the same film if not for the pace. The pace of Halloween feels virtually like real-time. Once you get to Halloween morning, the action is timed in such a way that it feels like you are watching an actual day unfold. The downside is that the film feels a bit slow in the middle. It didn't really bother me, but I have heard some people complain about this. The upside, of course, is that, once you buy into the timing, everything feels so authentic, so absolutely real. I have never seen a more suspenseful film than Halloween. The final twenty minutes or so, it is like you are literally watching a young girl fighting for her life. For pure suspense, that closet scene may be the greatest moment in slasher film history. It is one of the most suspenseful, nervewracking scenes you will ever encounter in ANY film, from ANY genre. But compare that to another sequence in the movie, that took place a few minutes before. I refer to the part where Laurie Strode goes over to check on her friends. That's basically all there is to it-a girl crossing a street, going from one house to another. But, in its own way, this scene is nearly as brilliant as the closet segment. A brief, simple walk, across a lonely street, to see if her friends are okay. You don't see any killers, or dead bodies, or violence of any kind. Just the occasional falling leaves, or the gentle autumnal winds caressing her hair. Just a girl crossing a street. But Carpenter imbues that one scene with more dread, more anticipation, more mystery, more subdued horror, than most directors are able to attain over the course of entire films. So often, genius lies not in what you do, but in HOW you do it. Michael Myers, Dr. Loomis, and Laurie Strode are the participants in a deadly 'triangular hunt', of sorts. All of it takes place in a typical American neighborhood, against the backdrop of an idyllic Halloween night......and there is simply nothing else like it.

This EP came out between Bazooka Tooth, Aesop Rock's first Def Jux production, and None Shall Pass. If Bazooka Tooth was Aes going crazy with the ability to utilize a fuller, more frenzied production approach, this EP is him realizing that he can keep that fullness of instrumentation while losing some of the "so full it approaches straight noise" aspect that Bazooka Tooth had. In this way, it feels very much like he's in an in-between place. He's discovering how he can refine this musical approach, as he approaches the luscious excellence that None Shall Pass embodies. Because of this, this collection of songs makes a great EP - a true stepping stone as he proof-of-concepts the style he perfects in None Shall Pass. There are a number of good songs on the album lyrically. I've only owned it for about 9 months, so I understand about 66% of the lyrics - typical Aesop Rock in this fashion. My favorite is probably "Holy Smokes," which is a biting and jaded but ultimately insightful reflection on religion vs. spirituality. "Rickety-Rackety" also shines for its excellent guest voccals. The chorus for "Winners Take All" keeps running in my head too: "I have landed safely / I have not received my papers / I have zero natural enemies / I don't know my location / I have no training in reconnaissance, combat, or colluding / I'm calling for my orders over / Strap on a helmet and start shooting!" - and then the second half I haven't managed to decipher yet. :p If you're not familiar with Aesop Rock, don't even consider this album. Buy None Shall Pass to experience the full realization of the musical concepts he introduces here, or Labor Days for a view into his earlier, more minimalist style. If you love Aesop Rock, you'll eat this up (but you should probably buy all the full albums first).

Many debate whether Aesop was better with his earlier releases or his latter ones, but one thing remains true...he is a genius. There is not another emcee with the vocabulary of Aesop Rock and we might not see another for a long time. Before I start with the everything good on the album, I must mention that the only downside was the length. I was left desiring more. Now, I started listening to Aesop during the Float days and grew accustomed to the beats by Blockhead with the earthy sounds. With that said, Bazooka Tooth was a difficult listen for me at first, but after a couple months with it, I craved the new sound of Aesop. I feel that Fast Cars is a bit of a mix between old and new Aesop sounds. The beats are a little less jagged than Bazooka Tooth, but far more electronic than Appleseed, Float, Labor Days & Music for Earthworms. Lyrically, he is still the same Ace Rock that we knew before. I doubt that his creativity will ever dwindle as each album is another work of art...good art. Is this his best work? Decide for yourself.

Sometimes Aesop Rock can come accross a little too cryptic or monotonous if he's not careful with his MO. But every song on this EP is the Aes Rizzle formula at its best. Cryptic on the surface but not too hard to understand after sinking your teeth in a bit.. and even if you could care less what he's talking about his flow has never been better. This is no Karaoke-able flow here. He's flowin over these beats with some mad skill and flaire... complex but still ear candy. If you love Aesop this wont let you down, if you havn't heard much of his stuff this is a great introduction. Oh yeah forgot to mention that the beats are mindblowingly good as well.

Bazooka Tooth was...worrying. The production was fun, although it got boring after a little while, but the lyrics were meaningless. The only really good songs on the album were Cook It Up (Hilarious song. PLEASE don't take it seriously.) and 11:35. Otherwise, the album was a shift away from Aesop's usual lyrical genius. For a year and a half, I was terrified that Aesop was going down the tubes like so many other hip-hop artists. When I listened to this EP, I breathed a sigh of relief. Holy Smokes is a song in which Aesop describes his religious history and convictions, and it is very well-written. Winners Take all is an excellent commentary on the military (backed up by a DOPE Rob Sonic beat, I might add). Food, Clothes, Medicine is a great song about social standards. Number Nine and Zodiaccupuncture don't have great lyrics, but the production makes up for it. Fast Cars and Rickety Rackety aren't great. Overall, this album is a redemption for Aesop Rock, and I'm interested to see his next full-length. Whenever it comes out.

The Reason i gave it 4 stars is because there should of been more than 7 F*ckin songs,S*it.That's why they call it a EP,but cumon.I think P**** A** Mother F***in punks out there don't give Credits to S*** like this. PHYSKE 3 STARS!!!!!

Gerber 22-41979 Commemorative 70th Anniversary LST Knife With Keychain And Collectable Tin Gerber 22-41979 Commemorative 70th Anniversary LST Knife With Keychain And Collectable Tin

Reviews

I own several Gerber knives and they have all been excellent. This one is the perfect size to carry in your pocket or keep in your vehicle. Built to last, solid and strong. It's also a great gift idea for the holidays.

FYI...The specs on this knife aren't exactly right. The weight and other specifics provided indicate it's the LST (weight 1.2 oz) but no length is provided. When it arrived I realized it's the Ultralight LST (about half the size). The price difference is pretty slight between the two but I've had an LST for years and it's been sharpened away to a nub. I thought for under 7 bucks this was a great time to get a replacement. I was very disappointed when I opened the box to reveal the Ultralight model. Return shipping is about half what I paid for the knife so I might as well just hang onto it.

I purchased this as a gift and was very pleased with it for the price.

The knife was a bit of a dissapointment. The blade wasn't ground correctly and had small point as the edge curved up to the tip. The edge was ruffly sharpened, looked like 120 grit. I you're expecting a polished edge or blade, this knife will not come with this feature. However the blade was fairly sharp. To be useful mine will have to be reground, honed, this polished. The folding locking mechanism worked well. The blade when opened and locked is stiff with little to no play. This is probably the best feature of the knife. The is a very small knife, a mini knife. The entire knife when opened was about the size of about half of a dollar bill. Also, the descrition says the knife is made in the usa, but this is not true. That back of package clearly says it is "Made In China" Personally, I wouldn't have bought the knife at any price knowing it was made in China. Considering this fact, I would put the value of this knife around $2-4.00 Any value from this being a commemorative product is lost being made in china in my opinion.

I was happy to buy this for my father, who is very hard to shop for. He is a knife collector so adding this to his collection was nice. Be aware that it is very very small.

John Rambo: Rambo III Signature Edition Knife Replica John Rambo: Rambo III Signature Edition Knife Replica

Reviews

This is an incredible replica. It is beautiful, and looks virtually identical to the one in the film. The knife makes a great display piece, to commemorate the movie or the Rambo character. You really have to see it in person to appreciate the size and striking beauty of this item. The pictures don't do it justice. The blade has a luster to it that you would be hard-pressed to envision from the photos you see online or in a catalog. The blade is gorgeous. However, it is also very thick. And it is the SIZE of this thing that has amazed me the most. It is basically like a short sword. The handle is nice, but full, so it might be easier to manipulate for guys with large hands. Plus, the weight distribution is not the most ergonomically efficient. The blade is of such high quality that, when you hold it, a lot of weight is extended out, away from your body, making it somewhat more difficult for the average person to control. I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you plan to actually use this item, you had better be a fairly strong guy. Your forearm will probably grow an inch or two if you handle this thing regularly. One note, though: this is not a toy. I don't know how sharp you can get it, but it is far too big and heavy to be looked upon as a plaything. I assume most people who purchase this will use it purely for display. However, it is big enough, and durable enough, so that if you had to use it as a tool(or even as a weapon) I think you could do a lot worse. This knife is so heavy, it would make nearly as good of a club or baton as it would a knife, if you swing the flat side at somebody. If you love Rambo 3, this knife is the perfect way to express that. On the other hand, if you just happen to love knives, for their own sake, this is not a bad choice, either.

Victorinox 125th Anniversary Limited Edition 7-Inch Santoku Knife with Granton Edge Victorinox 125th Anniversary Limited Edition 7-Inch Santoku Knife with Granton Edge

Reviews

I have a lot of experience as a cook, mostly as at home but also time spent in the restaurant kitchen. When my church decided to remodel and restock its kitchen, I was asked to made the recommendations on specific brands (of small appliances, cookware, knives) to buy. I relied on a bunch of reviews, including those in Cooks Illustrated and Consumer Reports, and bought a handful of highly-rated knives to test. The Victorinox was the winner, hands down. Here's why: -- exceedingly comfortable handle, slightly indented to accommodate your finger tips, usable by all three testers (a member of the church's youth group, a petite woman and a 6' guy). -- exceedingly light weight and good balance. Some of the knives were blade-heavy, hard to control and tiring for the occasional-cook to use. Some felt wretchedly uncomfortable in your hand. The Victorinox was feather light and easy to manage. -- exceedingly sharp blade that worked well on a variety of cutting tasks. -- a ridiculously low price. Some of the finalist knives were over $100 a piece. Victorinox was doing the same quality of work for a quarter (in some cases less) of the price. We ended up buying several Victorinox models -- serrated slicer, santoku, small chef's -- and have been very pleased with each.

Great knife - SHARP - Cuts veggies and even tomatoes as thin as you like - No need to stick the tomatoes to start the cut - They look picture perfect too - If I had to complain about anything it is that the cucumber slices still stick to the side of the blade but the way this thing cuts I'll put up with that - Maybe I didn't even need to mention that - Worth every penny - Just to note, I bought the bread knife too - Just as great

This is sharp from mfg. We use this brand comercially, have knives 3x more expensive, not better. Doesn't hold edge as long as very best, but I don't feel guilty hitting it w/ a steel.

A good knife for a home cook. The handles are small for a big man, perhaps uncomfortably so, but for most others it's OK. The blade is thin and flexible, so for home use, it's fine but not for commercial or serious chefs.

I bought this knife instead of the other Victorinox 7" granton-edge santoku knife (Victorinox Cutlery 7-Inch Granton Edge Santoku Knife, Black Fibrox Handle) because this one is advertised in the Amazon product description as being a forged knife, and it's not (Same with the 8" chef's advertised as 125th anniversary- buy the regular one!). The linked knife is the exact same (except for the special-edition "jubilee etching" on this one) knife, but a couple bucks cheaper right now. Go by the description of the other knife and buy whichever one is cheaper. It is an awesome knife though! It is a bit light (which as a girl with small hands, I prefer) but feels very balanced, the blade is very straight and high-quality. So the only reason I gave this knife 4 instead of 5 stars is for the misleading product description, which thinking back is probably my fault for not realizing right away that Victorinox wouldn't put the fibrox handle on a forged knife, but oh well, they were the same price when I bought it so I didn't lose anything.
